Hi all,
Recently, my wife snookered the PC I built for her by installing some type of crazy malware. It was so bad that I couldn't install any drivers without crashing the system and could not even boot into my Acronis backup recovery shell (boots from a CD to it's own OS). I couldn't even attempt a Windows Repair using the install CD - it was reporting the drive was locked. Anyway, some choice words about clicking "Yes" to every installer prompt and a reformat later I put her on a 'Standard' user account and set up an Admin account. I installed WCG-BOINC on the system using the current version available (7.2.47) and installed as a service as I normally do. I did this from her account and with approval from my Admin account when prompted. Seemed to go fine. However, her account is prompted by the system to give BOINC Admin privileges in order to work. So far I can only recall this happening during a Log On & Log Off event. Is there a work around? I would like to be able to run the program even if not logged into an account. Thanks! G |

Hi,
assuming that you are using Win7 Professional: - create your account during setup - set a password for and activate the account "Administrator", use this one to handle software installations. For that, click right on "Computer", choose "manage" and go to "local groups and users". - ofc, set up another account for your wife with user-privileges. That worked for me. Ran fine in a headless configuration. Greetings |
