a) Previously, I believe we used to get one notification of new activity in a thread. Now, I am getting multiple emails as close as 2 mins apart. This deluge is really excessive. There is really no point sending any more until the user has been to the site and read the thread.
b) The emails end with: "If you would like to stop receiving this email, please perform the following steps: 1) Visit 'My Watch' section of the World Community Grid Forums at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/forums/wcg/mywatch 2) Delete all watches that have been setup" However, the web page referred to in the email doesn't exist: "World Community Grid Forums ยป Error !!! The error message is: Cannot find matching entry in ActionInUserModule for "/forums/wcg/mywatch". Please contact the administrator." |

I think you'll find that this excessive deluge is a one off. The email notifications were faulty from early Feb until corrected by knreed Feb 25 The accumulated backlog was cleared resulting in multiple notifications in a very short time span.
----------------------------------------As per toss post above email notifications can be amended in My Watch Altrnatively go to My Forum Profile and select My Watch (left hand side & a few lines from the top). ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by jonnieb-uk at Feb 27, 2014 6:37:46 PM] |

As per toss post above email notifications can be amended in My Watch Altrnatively go to My Forum Profile and select My Watch (left hand side & a few lines from the top). Yes, I can find it. The point of mentioning the second part is that the URL in the automated emails should be correct. (... or the URL it gives should be redirected to the real one.) As to the deluge, no, it's still happening. 5 emails in 2.5 hours for the same watch. |

You have two options setting up a watch:
----------------------------------------Digest: You get a once a day summary Non-Digest: You get an email every 10 minutes if there are new posts in a thread and you get one email per thread. Based on your description, you are signed up for Non-Digest. I would recommend switching to Digest. Also - the URL link has been corrected. Non-Digest: You get an email every 10 minutes if there are new posts in a thread and you get one email per thread. Based on your description, you are signed up for Non-Digest. I would recommend switching to Digest. The way most web-based boards I've seen work for non-digest to send a limited number (usually one) of emails until the user visits the thread, or at least to offer that option. If we switch to digest, then emails will be sent way too late to be worthwhile receiving at all in some groups (e.g. beta test), but set to non-digest means a flood. Also, it's even worse than the worst-case should be. One extra email is sent per thread, so if the number of posts in a new thread is n, the number of emails received is n+1. e.g. I have a category watch on beta testing. There's a new (and completely off-topic) thread called "AMD Mantle VS Microsoft Direct X12" in beta test support. It currently has 3 messages. I received 4 notification emails, the first two being 33 secs apart. This is a perfect example of why many sites implement a limit on non-digest emails on a single topic. When you see a notification for something off-topic, you shouldn't have to turn off a whole category of notifications in order to not get spammed by more of them. |
