Update:

After emailing the project scientist, Dr. Rosangela, mhammond got a response stating that the project was going well and that they were testing 16 drug candidates and that they were being tested at the Brazilian Biosciences National Laboratory in both in vitro and in vivo.

After that, I e-mailed Dr. Rosangela and she said that the SN2S project has been approved for clinical human trials (previously discussed here ) . The tests at the Brazilian Biosciences National Laboratory (the project team received the approval news just this week) are meant to assure a lower level of toxicity and side effects than Praziquantel (the only approved drug for the treatment of schistosomiasis, approved in the 70's). I assume this to be one of the main steps before moving on to the human trials.

Also I asked her the possibility of more work in the future. Dr. Rosangela said that the work we did in the 1st Phase of the SN2S project comprised over 5 Terabytes of potential targets and drugs and that they have another 6 Terabytes of potential targets and drugs to be tested in Phase 2. So, I think that the project will either resume at some point in the future or we will have a SN2S - Phase 2 project.

But don't take my word for it :D
