Re: how to get 2 tasks on one boinc

Ramdisk are not more complicated as all other disks. My complete BOINC is running on a I7/2700K in a 8 GB ramdisk 24/7 which are saved automatically on disk for the situation that system bound to restart because of updades e.t.c. So this aren't be the prob.

And sometimes, to get the badges, i switch to only get CEP2 as my running project. So it runs eight tasks simultaneously. I don't want these write-processes simultaneously on my ssd, because it can be but must not be affect the life-time of my ssd.

To avoid this i use about 50% of my RAM for the ramdisk. My SSD which is my main and only disk-device is almost unused in affect of BOINC an therefore WCG.

Greetings, Pilgerlein

Hi Pilgerlein,
biggrin
There is a years-old thread where I talk about saving the RAM disk rather than just erasing it. This discouraged all but the experts who enjoy complicated details. You seem to take complications for granted without worry.

Congratulations! Please post whenever you see a member floundering who needs help.

Re: how to get 2 tasks on one boinc

We had planned to compile the various recommendations about RAM disk in a Howto guide but never got around to it. Maybe the new guys will have a go at it. Note, that we don't use this technology ourselves and are content with conventional technology, which works fine for our purposes. This is, as Lawrence pointed out, really mostly for the tinkerers.
Best wishes,
Your CEP team

Your results require validation by another volunteer host.
Wait a few days.

After your work units have been reported, they need to be validated by another cruncher. You do not receive any points until the validation occurs. Click on "Result Status" on the right side to see how many are "Pending Validation" or are "Valid."

i have created ram disks. they are not to complicated for me. im in the same ssd boat. my problem is my computer is shut off 2-3 times a day and all night. so i feel a dam disk would be ineffective. how do you make it auto save to your hdd?

Re: how to get 2 tasks on one boinc

I did a quick Google search and came across an article from 2012. It seems there is some software out there that will have the RAM disk upon exit. For moderate size disks one of them can be had for free or a nominal price for larger disks. I can't vouch for any of them but it might be worth looking into.

Benjamin,

If you are not running more than 4 work-units on a modern drive I would not be concerned using anything additional. My quad operates 4 on a HD just fine. My workstation has 16 simultaneous WU running on an SSD on the extreme side.

See the "tips and tricks" section of the FAQ below.

I'am using the SoftPerfect RAM Disk, which has a Persistant RAM Disk Feature. Accordingly configurated the RAM Disk will be saved on disk in due of a shut-down and reloaded with the start of Windows. The Software is free to use.
