Hello, I am a new user of BOINC. I am having a issue with the client jumping from one task to another and not completing most of them without jumping back and forth a few times.
Is there some way to set the client up to do one task until its completed before jumping to another? ![]() |

You are probably getting repair jobs to be returned with reduced deadlines. Try increasing your cache to about 3 days and you will minimize the number of repair jobs you get.

Alternatively, reduce your cache so that the scheduler feels unworried about finishing your tasks.

I am guessing you are running BOINC version 6
---------------------------------------- If yes, consider updateing to 7.0.x or 7.2.x Cheers ![]() ![]() Crunching@Home since January 13 2000. Shrubbing@Home since January 5 2006 ![]() |

In addition to changing the size of the cache to reduce the chance of getting high priority jobs there is also a configuration setting in the Boinc client which sets when Boinc will re-evaluate when to switch applications.
The setting is "Switch between applications every (X) minutes". This option does what it says and sets a time where the boinc client will re-evaluate the tasks to be run. The default for this is 60 minutes. If you set this to a ridiculously high value then it won't switch between applications unless you have a large cache and receive higher priority jobs to run with a shorter deadline than your current task... in theory at least ![]() |

My system is a i5-3570k, 32 GB ram, GTX 680, and Win 8. I installed BOINC version 7.2.33 on a 1 TB HDD that had just a few older games on it. The drive was pretty much going unused as it was. I gave 500 GB to BOINC to use.
The first few tasks I ran would run for about 30 minutes then suddenly stop and other tasks would start up. None of them said high priority or anything. I went into the settings and changed the "Switch between applications every X minutes" setting from 120 minutes to 900. That seems to have helped. |
