Hello all,
From what I was able to find I don't think that a windows phone can run boinc application, but wanted to ask if anyone has tried this. I had this phone left over from a previous purchase and wanted to know if it could be used in any way to compute for WCG. I was also wondering if it would be possible to install Android over Windows OS on my phone, but from reading further that would require expertise above my level. However if anyone had heard this I would greatly appreciate it if you could share your knowledge. Thank you in advance. |

Hello vitali.dedkov,
The Nokia Lumia 710 runs on a 1.4 Ghz Snapdragon, which uses ARM code and Windows Mobile OS. We only support ARM code on Android OS. Android on x86 and Windows on ARM code are oddball combinations that are not supported. Too bad. Lawrence |

Gotcha,
Thanks for the info. I guess my old phone will just sit there and gather dust. Do you know if BOINC will ever try to work with Microsoft products like the OS on its phones or even on Xbox 360? I heard that PS3 can support some BOINC projects, but I am not an expert and have only heard rumors. |

Hello vitali.dedkov,
I don't know. The PS3 excited people way back when it first came out, but Sony decided to stop supporting programs that did not make money for Sony. Right now, developers are cautious. You can check http://www.distributedcomputing.info/ to see what is current. Lawrence |

I'm sure that Android is the current target due to its market share, and the Linux core would make programming fairly easy. However, as with many "oddball" platforms, enthusiast community members can usually make some pretty amazing things happen. This was the case early on with project apps being optimized and ported, and with BOINC coming to Android; before the official version came out, there were NativeBOINC and androBOINC.
----------------------------------------It's certainly possible that there will be a Windows Mobile version sometime in the future, but I doubt Berkeley will put much into it until the market share improves a bit. |
