Hello all,
I noticed that there were two types of boinc available for android devices. One is the BOINC download from U.C Berkerley and the other one is Native Boinc. Does anyone know what the difference between those two are and if one is better for an android device than other. BOINC https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=edu.berkeley.boinc&hl=en Native BOINC https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=sk.boinc.nativeboinc&hl=en Thanks in advance. |

The Boinc app is the app that was developed by Berkeley, and is the WCG authorized app, and is the one that I use. Nativeboinc may work, but it is not supported by Berkeley or WCG. Both are available through Google Play as are most apps for devices running Android.

Both are available through Google Play as are most apps for devices running Android. I felt that too when I was using Native Boinc. It looked as if I had the WCG app installed on my phone, but it made my phone overheat too much. The base setting for its phone temperature was set at 60 Celsius vs 45 with normal BOINC app, and the settings were not optimized for a phone, but as if you were still using your laptop. Scribe I think the one that just says BOINC is officially developed by Berkely, just going off from what I read in the reviews and the developers name. I think they at least allowed their name to be used to I am guessing they at least okay with this app being used. I just ended up using the original one, but just wondered if anyone had success using the other one. Thanks for your input. ![]() |

nativeBOINC is based on 7.0.36 version of BOINC. It will work on older phones that Berkeley's version wont. It also gives you more functionality than Berkeley's version does. With that said, I have seen mixed results on both apps depending on device.
----------------------------------------Things that nativeBOINC will do that Berkeley's still doesn't? 1. You can choose the name for your device 2. You can use account managers like BAM! I'm not saying which you should choose but rather find one you like and try it. If it has issues, try the other. I have seen and read where people found better results/experiences using each. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Account managers have been supported for some time now. However, computing preferences are still local only (from the phone) and not taken from either the account manager or projects. |

Where is the option to attach to an account manager and what version did this start? I'm not using the pre-release, but rather the recommended stable version 7.2.15

When you click the "Add project" button, there should be a button to add an account manager next to the "Add project by URL" button.
----------------------------------------Account manager support was added in version 7.2.17. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by noderaser at Jan 8, 2014 4:15:20 AM] |

If you are planning to use android devices like odroid or minix or such alike boinc may not run because these devices have no battery.
----------------------------------------That is the reason why I have to use native boinc. It runs WCG properly. Edit: I've subscribed to the beta forum of boinc for android and reported the error for android devices that have only a power supply and no battery. They told me that the error is easy to fix but that didn't happen since a couple of month. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Eric_Kaiser at Jan 8, 2014 10:54:05 AM] |

Good info guys. Since I don't run development builds from Berkeley on my phones, I didn't know they had added it yet. I will have to make a note for future suggestions.
