I Get Way Too Many Messages

I must have a thousand messages for some reason. Every time a task starts, finishes or downloads I get another message. Also every time a schedular request is sent I get a message. Is there any way to delete these and only get important messages? Thanks.

Re: I Get Way Too Many Messages

Hi,

Can you copy and paste a good long section. Then we can tell if you have only the default on or extras. Also tell us what version of client you installed. From WCG directly or from Berkeley? Windows or something else?

Yes we can switch the defaults off too if you like. Just requires some lines in the cc_config.xml. Usually that file does not exist by default [On Windows], so it has to be created.

The important 'user attention requiring' messages in v7 clients actually appear in the Notices tab, and also have a balloon pop up from the system tray [if BOINC Manager is also running]. Just then ignore the event/message log.

Re: I Get Way Too Many Messages

My worry is that eventually I'll have thousands of these and they will effect my performance. Also any important messages will be buried.I've only been doing WCG for about three weeks and I already have at least a thousand. All I have is a messages tab, I don't have a notices tab. Where do I go to find the version of client that I have? I have Windows 7 operating system. Thanks for the help. Here's what some look like:

Re: I Get Way Too Many Messages

Well, there's a default cap on the number of messages kept on the system [in bytes, 1MB IIRC]. As soon as that cap is reached, the log is copied to an .old file and a new one is started. If again the log fills up, the archive overwrites the previous .old file, so there's never more than 2MB of log data. The log file is different to what you see... that is capped too. Too many lines just run off the display. Usually after a boot, the restart lines in the log disappear off my Event log window on the second or third day. So, concern over nothing... way ahead of the curve-ball. After all, BOINC has been in constant development for over 10 years.
