Keeping getting login failures in website and in WCG client

I have cookies enabled, but in almost all cases it denies my user/pass logging in. Also inside the WCG client anywhere it asks for credentials, my user/pass are denied.

I tried checking my account name and resetting my password using "forgot user/pass", it does send me the emails. It seems to accept the request and the new password but if i try logging out and back in I'll almost certainly be denied access again.

Any advice...?

Re: Keeping getting login failures in website and in WCG client

Hi, and welcome to WCG.

Something is mangling the traffic from your machines to WCG... most often it's security software [What security software?]. What is your client version? I'm asking because the latest clients seem to be more in cahoots with web-browsers i.e. web-browsers themselves and whatever add-ons could have become part of the problem [What browser on what OS]. Certain would try to exit the web-browser, clear the [cookie cache on exit], and see if that passes access. Maybe then we have a line of investigation.

Also, would do a deep scan on anything malwarish, just to be double sure.

Let us know.

P.S. Are you starting web-access to WCG by hitting buttons [on the left] in the client?

Re: Keeping getting login failures in website and in WCG client

Browser is Firefox 26.0

Extensions: Adblock Plus, Firebug
Plugins: Shockwave flash, Silverlight, Acrobat, Google Update

Strangely enough, the system considers me logged in at the moment, but if I try going to "My profile" it asks for login credentials and that page always says there's a login error.

I get the same login error in my IE as well.

In fact, my only way to login thus far was to ask for a password reset, after I give the new password it says it's successful and keeps me logged in.

I strongly doubt that malware is somehow involved. Authentication is using TLS after all, no? It would be very curious if it somehow mangled just this specific transaction with this particular site (out of maybe 10-15 accounts I am accessing?) and nothing else.

At some point I did manage to access my profile, got my weak account key and registered myself to the project using boinccmd --project_attach http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org. So my computer is doing some work at least, but it's still annoying that I have to reset my password every time I want to log in, and I can't access my profile page at all anymore.

Re: Keeping getting login failures in website and in WCG client

Oh, I've found the issue. This one was my bad. The password I was trying to use was longer than 15 characters, the form accepted it when I registered, but the login one doesn't. I realized that was the problem when I read the password replacement page again. It specifically states the password can't be longer than 15 characters.

Perhaps consider rejecting such passwords immediately when they are fed into registration forms. Someone else might run into this problem...
