I have my cpu has quad core (4 cpu's, right?) and yet I only seem to be running one project at a time AND I occasionally get a message saying that the CPU is busy--even if I'm not using the computer at the time. Any ideas?

At the top of this page click Settings > Device Manager > Device Profiles > On multiprocessors, at most use: 4
----------------------------------------If you are running Clean Energy Project you should also choose 4 (or more) where it says Number of workunits per host for The Clean Energy Project - Phase 2 And after that you can click Update in Boinc Manager. In Boinc, go into tools, computing preferences, processor usage
----------------------------------------Under Computing allowed "while computer in use", check that box, and the box that says "while processor usage is less than x%. I set that to 0. Then down below, where it says "on multiprocessor systems use X% of the processors. 100 would use all 4 of your CPUs. Make sure CPU time box below that is also 100% for maximum productivity. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by ryan222h at Dec 10, 2013 9:58:24 PM] |

Hello David Conklin,
We know nothing about your system other than it has 4 cores. If you paste the first 50 or so lines from your Event Log, we will know more after reading the description. Lawrence |

neezeg, I have all of that.
ryan222h, my Boinic doesn't give me a "while computer in use" box to check. I did drop the processor use to less than 100% as per your instructions. Lawrence, where do I find the Event Log? |

I have found that when I use CTRL-ALT-DEL and look under processes that I am running 4 programs--not the one I wanted to run, but ....

Hi David Conklin,
Lawrence, where do I find the Event Log? It is in BOINC Manager, though it might be titled 'Messages' depending on which version of BOINC Manager you use.Lawrence |

I did drop the processor use to less than 100% as per your instructions. I don't think he told you to do that! He was telling you that set to 100% would use all of your 4 cores which is what you wanted. |

David, stop, take a deep breath and do the following:
----------------------------------------1. go to boinc manager. 2. if it's not in Advanced view mode, then go to View -> Advanced View 3. now go to Advanced -> Event log 4. Scroll all the way up 5. Click the first line and holding Shift down click the 50-ish line 6. Click the "Copy Selected" button then paste it here Hope this helps. Cheers! Knowledge is limited. Hi David Conklin, Lawrence, where do I find the Event Log? It is in BOINC Manager, though it might be titled 'Messages' depending on which version of BOINC Manager you use.Lawrence In BOINC v7 Ctrl+Shft+E will open the Event log window, both in the Simple and Advanced view [says so in the menu too], which makes it quick to get access. In v6 and before Messages is a tab. The v7 separate window allows to monitor the log while observing BOINC and feedback to any activity the user applies in the BOINC Manager main window. edit: If minimizing BOINC Manager [close] to systray, and opening, it will remember if the Event log was open and it's position. Makes it easy [for triple eMMers] to always see what going on. [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at Dec 11, 2013 11:07:25 AM] |
