BOINC on mac with multiple users [RESOLVED]

Hello all

I'm running BOINC on a mac osx 10.6.8. It's a shared computer and I don't have access to the others users account, only my own.

The problem is BOINC launches on all accounts, not only mine. Is there an easy way to change this, so it only launches itself when I log in?

Thanks in advance, really hope to solve this one.

Re: BOINC on mac with multiple users

Think on Mac, BOINC always installs as daemon [background service]. Then in the BOINC Manager Options, select to not launch BOINC Manager at log-in and OK.

Let us know.

P.S. At least under Windows, don't know for Mac, during install process you actually have to choose 'Allow all users', to get BOINC to run [for all users] on sign-in and allow them to use BOINC Manager. If not except for the one installing BOINC, the localhost [daemon] connection is refused. As service/daemon BOINC will always run in background.

edit: expand a bit.

Re: BOINC on mac with multiple users

I cannot seem to find the option not to launch at log-in. It seems to be neither under options or preferences - could you kindly point me in the right direction?

Wikis:

Truly do not know if the interface matches 1:1 between Windows and Mac. Just looked in my Linux install which has -not- got the mentioned Options > General tab the Run Manager at Login. hmmm.

More google, this wiki discusses the stop manager launch:

Re: BOINC on mac with multiple users

It's doesn't match 1:1 regarding interfaces. Mac has no such option to disable start-up for all users, neither on install nor anytime later.

However, I did get a good look through the wiki and this http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Tools_for_Mac_OS_X seems to solve the problem. It's a bit cumbersome going into the terminal and whatnot, but at least it works! Thanks.

Re: BOINC on mac with multiple users [RESOLVED]

Another 'Great' for today marking my response as [RESOLVED] in title. Please do so in your OP post too.

(It's not really of FAQ level... it's asked every 2nd year [then forgotten], but a one liner FAQ index reference to the wiki is not much effort to insert... if I remember to do so)
