I've seen a number of the MCM WU downloaded on one of my Win7 machines and just happened to have task manager open. I can see the majority are using wcgrid_mcm1_7.24_windows_x86_64 but a couple, on the same machine, are using wcgrid_mcm1_7.24_windows_intelx86.
Is there any specific reason why the 32 bit application would be used on a 64 bit Windows machine or is this a bug causing the wrong version to be run? |

Yes, you can get both. The system could:
1) Test if either of 2 can be more efficient [yes 32 bit could be more efficient than the 64 bit app on a 64 bit OS]. Don't know if this system was actually activated. It's a BOINC server feature for sure. 2) If it's a repair they seem to get indiscriminately distributed by priority to any device asking for work, provided the device/OS+libs can process 32 bit apps [the more likely reason]. Repair tasks have a _2 or higher suffix and a short deadline, not 10 days. |

OK. Thanks Rob. Thought I'd better check.
FYI: I can see that one of the tasks is a repair task, the other doesn't appear to be. It just looks like the second task sent in the quorum. |

Then I guess the distribution is completely indiscriminate... one copy processed in 32 bit requires the wingman to too process in 32 bit [once the quorum detail prints the OS info you'd be able to confirm that]. Your device asked for work, is known to be able to process 32 bit, so it was recruited. If your system were e.g. Linux, and had no 32 bit libs, a pure 64 bit system, you'd not see that mix [one reason why WCG started compiling 64 bit versions].
