"Journal withdraws controversial French Monsanto GM study"

"The publisher (Reed Elsevier's Food and Chemical Toxicology journal) of a controversial and much-criticised study suggesting genetically modified corn caused tumours in rats has withdrawn the paper after a yearlong investigation found it did not meet scientific standards."

Re: Interesting News Articles About Cancer

Spicing up cancer treatments with curcumin (see what I did there ? OK, but you will)
Scientists have found a very unusual potential cancer-fighting technique: nanoparticles that carry curry into cancer cells. Specifically the particles were filled with curcumin, a compound found in curry.

The research by scientists from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Austria was published in the Journal of Nanobiotechnology on Dec. 6.

Curcumin comes from the turmeric plant, which is commonly used in daals and other curries, and known for its distinctive bright yellow powder.

We already knew that curcumin works as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. Other research has shown that when curcumin is absorbed by tumor cells, it stops the cell's growth cycle eventually killing the cell.

The trick is getting the curcumin into the cancerous cells.
Full story at link. Hint - don't think eating the stuff will do you any good.

BREAST CANCER : A lot of tomatoes to reduce the risk

"A diet rich in tomatoes (but not too much soy) may help protect postmenopausal women the risk of breast cancer, according to this study from Rutgers University published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism. While this risk increases with menopause, and with increasing BMI, these data confirm the positive effect of an inexpensive vegetable and its antioxidant Lycopene on the regulation of fat metabolism and sugar effect prevention of breast cancer."

BREAST CANCER : Rock And Rho are moving cancer cells

"In case of low oxygen within the tumor, cancer cells that are levels? They adapt to further promote the spread of cancer, says study at Johns Hopkins that describes the molecular chain process that allows cells to be more mobile and invasive. The work presented in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, emphasize the importance of factors induced by hypoxia in the spread of metastases of breast cancer and confirms 2 targets that promote what researchers call here the "groove" cancer cells."

CANCER : Soon milks rich in polyphenols anti-proliferative

"While the polyphenols found in tea have shown their anti-cancer effects, but their use is limited by poor bioavailability and an unpleasant taste, however, diluted in skim milk or other beverages containing milk, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), the main and most active polyphenols, continues to reduce the proliferation of colon cancer. This is a new role for milk and products aitiers is suggested with this study published in the Journal of Dairy Science, that of always delivering bioactive anti-cancer polyphenols."
