Re: Mapping Cancer Markers Badge Thread

Well done, Unixchick. After 12 years crunching, I'm losing some interest. Status reports would help keep me engaged....

I am not losing interest, but any kind of status report is always appreciated. Some more involvement form the people behind the project(s) seems to be in short supply. I would even welcome any kind of followup from the scientists in the completed projects.
Cheers

Re: Mapping Cancer Markers Badge Thread

I love a good progress bar. I think that is part of why I like ARP so much. It is a worthy science project, that each WU is understandable and tangible. It has a known end, and the scripts let us see the progress each day.

MCM is missing those features. I have no idea what the WU names mean. Do numbers in the name mean anything or are they just counters?? There is no known endpoint, so we don't get a progress bar.

So I'm shooting for the only goal I can with my one tiny machine - 1 year badge. Otherwise I only do MCM to keep me asking the server for the WUs I really want.

Periodic updates from researchers help too. Remind us what we have helped accomplish, and give us a next goal to shoot for.

Thanks for noticing my milestone, even if I'm only helping a tiny bit compared to others.

Re: Mapping Cancer Markers Badge Thread

The distance between badges for my one slow machine is too big, so I'm being silly and marking small milestones. Here is 225 days.

I've got 4 at a time running on my mac mini as it is only MCM at the moment. I'm running without a queue in hopes of getting some ARP soon.

Re: Mapping Cancer Markers Badge Thread

Well, despite Krembil's best efforts drag this out, I was in fact able to get the 100y badge for MCM1 today.
Would be roughly 550 calendar days by the current pace to get to the next one, let's see what happens with the other projects... wink

Ralf

PS: Still hate the color scheme that was for whatever reason devised just before the shutdown... sad

Re: Mapping Cancer Markers Badge Thread

Achievement unlocked: 50 yrs on MCM.

Unfortunately, I am now retiring from WCG. The astonishing incompetence demonstrated during the extremely extended timeframe of the migration from IBM, lack of progress over multiple months of resolving the server/network issues, and continuing poor communication means I do not plan to continue. And add to that the electricity cost of running three Xeon machines 24/7. I am going to continue on GPU tasks for Folding@Home only from now on.

It is quite surprising so many people here are so forgiving and understanding and have decided to continue contributing. The global daily runtime counts are down from around 600 years/day before the migration in Jan-Feb 2022 to around 200-300 now, and I'm surprised that many people are so patient.

Good luck to Krembil and the people who have chosen to keep supporting their research.

Congratulations on the new badge. To each their own. As exasperated and frustrated as I have been, I will be staying because I believe in the research. I also agree their communication is not optimal, recently advancing from dismal to poor. However they are taking baby steps to resolving their issues, which, hopefully, will bear fruit sooner rather than later. I understand they do not have unlimited resources to address their problems, but better communication costs little but time.
Cheers
