Sometimes I ask people to look at the site. However it is still not clear to them that:
----------------------------------------1. they do not need to be online for the work to be done; 2. even if they have dial-up, their computer will not be slowed down except briefly during a download or upload Although this is all obvious to me and most people here, it should be more clear and right up front at the home page, so the general public doesn't worry about this stuff. Once they say "not interested anyway" it's very hard to convince them. A lot of them don't know what "CPU cycles" are. [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at Aug 13, 2005 12:57:00 PM] |

good thread there but i think it's still too advanced to put on the home page
---------------------------------------- by the way i am usually live on line with them, not just emailing them, so they tend to make fast decisions.[Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Aug 13, 2005 1:29:10 PM] |

We try to keep up with the questions we receive and add FAQs to the Help facility. We have an FAQ to cover most situations but what you are probably saying is that people don't go to the FAQs. We'll add your idea to the development to-do list. Thanks.

I have only just noticed the new layout of the home page of wcg - nice move!
----------------------------------------May I suggest one small change.... The home page is probably visited more by people who are visiting for the first time and not current members. Therefore the layout of: World Community Grid would like to spotlight the following 5 teams for producing the most run time yesterday: 1. Slashdot Users 1:235:09:26:22 2. MyOnlineTeam 1:026:19:16:17 3. IBM Corporation 0:362:03:55:32 4. IBM 0:333:10:05:28 5. TribalWar.com 0:294:08:03:34 should really take away the nitty gritty details and show the information (and not just data) i.e.: World Community Grid would like to spotlight the top 5 teams for producing the most run time yesterday: 1. Slashdot Users 1 yr, 235 days 2. MyOnlineTeam 1 yr, 26 days 3. IBM Corporation 362 days 4. IBM 333 days 5. TribalWar.com 294 days (with some tabs) Please keep in mind that the meaning of all those numbers are obvious to present members, but are total garbage to first time vistors. (sorry if that was very strong, but from a marketing point of view, data is not the same as information and first time visitors look for information on a home page) Nice idea and good initiative all the same.... and with the suggested changes, will be even better! ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Aug 18, 2005 3:24:10 PM] |

[Grin] We keep changing the 'What's New' section of the Home Page. ...sooo that's the secret of keeping things different on the home page I read nelsoc's posts, but what I didn't realise is that you rotate the information in that area of the home page. Thanks for the update.Good to see you around mycrofth. Hope you are enjoying your weekend. I have allergies and unfortunately the heat today combined with the amount of pollen in the air has kept me pretty "off beat". Have a good one and take care! |

Pollen! So that is why I have been using so much Kleenex this last week. Yes, my oldest niece moved into the area only 2 miles from my younger sister at the beginning of August. I went over last weekend to see her new baby, and most of the family showed up for an early supper at her home this Sunday. Noisy, with her younger sister's 2 children added to her 2.
Hope you get some rain to settle the pollen, RobSab. |
