Glitch in new member signup form

Hi,

I'm probably just being useless, but when I first tried to register with the name suggested by the software, I kept getting a message up saying the password didn't match the system. I didn't have "existing member" selected and tried several times with the same result... I had a look at the install notes and wondered whether I had regged before, so I put in my name and asked for my pass to be mailed to me. I can only assume the person with Kate as their ID just got a mail from you blushing

It might save newbies a few minutes of headscratching if you included some indicator to say that you're trying to register a name that is already taken... biggrin

Thanks.. great site and forum btw \o

Re: Glitch in new member signup form

The vendor software just fills in your logon name as a member name. However, if you have a common logon name, chances are that someone else has already claimed it as theirs. All of the member names must be unique. So if you just change it to something unusual and/or add some random digits to it, that should solve the problem.

A related thing that happens is that some people think they actually registered with the member name that someone else already uses. Then, when they go to the web site to sign in to see their statistics, they find their password does not work. They invoke the recover password function. But, the password is sent to the original member. So, if you sometimes receive an unsolicited email for recovering your password, now you know why this might have happened.

Sorry about all this. That is just the way the software is designed. We have ideas on our future list of possible things to do which might simplify and eliminate some of this confusion.
