Hello aptx.4869,
The "exit with 0 status" is just a meaningless message. There are many posts about it going back to the beginning. If you like, look up the topic in "Start Here". I am glad to see that you have limited BOINC to 8 CEP2 work units. 7 would be even safer since you have 7 GB of RAM. I am uncertain why you have limited BOINC to only 7 GB of disk space. I allow more than 2 GB per work unit on my own system. I would recommend about 20 GB on your system. Lawrence |

Hi!
Actually, that was an old setting... I kept trying different settings after I noticed the problem using those recommended by the CEP team. The disk space is set to no more than 10GB (though I just increased that to 15GB). The number of maximum work unit is actually set to unlimited but since I'm using an i7 CPU, which has 4 physical cores and each has hyper-threading, the maximum simultaneous work unit is limited by the CPU at 8 units... I tried looking up for the error message, too, but since the search function doesn't have verbatim search the results are staggering while don't seem to be relevant... Thanks for your reply, I'll keep observing! |

'Verbatim' search by inserting the Boolean AND or OR, in capitals between the words of a specific sentence or key words target list. A search for 'zero status' would then become 'zero AND status'. Of course the 'advanced' forum search then allows to further narrow it down. Thusly, if looking for this text and you select to only look in the Start Here forum, you'd get a very limited hit list.
"Zero status / if this happens ... " is truly related to an overloaded system. Set 'While processor usage is less than' to 25% and the Activity menu to '[CPU] Run based on preferences' and BOINC will pause for as long as the non-BOINC load is greater than xx percent. The main cause I think is heavy competition for storage IO. I'm running CEP2 on a W7-64 octo on half cores, though it easily handles 8 concurrent, when left alone and doing BOINC exclusively. The suggested limit is 4 [half of CPUs], which with the new v7 client can be achieved by adding a small app_config.xml file to the project folder and forcing a read of the file (Search boolean on forum as there are many discussions on the file use). |

Ah, I didn't try boolean operators... Thanks!
----------------------------------------But do you think using RAM entirely (0% swap file) will do the job as well? Edit: It seems that will no longer be necessary now. I tried stopping all streaming services (mainly entertainment) on all my 4 physical hard drives and oh my, that seems to do the trick (over 8 hours of smooth calculations now). Well gotta give science the priority, eh? ; D Edit: Next morning (just now), I checked the log and noticed that 5 out of 8 WU restarted at precisely the same time, which appears to be an issue described here . Oh well... [Edit 5 times, last edit by Former Member at Nov 18, 2013 3:15:52 AM] |
