I have some doubts on hibernation and SSD because hybernation file is static and wear leveling should not work in this case (perhaps I'm wrong with that). Algorithms used in SSD firmware will spread writes across the drive even if the same file is overwritten, so do not worry about this :) ![]() |

Hello again.
I have deselected the CEP from my Projects list but I still keep getting CEP Projects which I then Kill. How can I block further CEP tasks. I am not prepared to keep my computer on all the time and with the very long time allocated to saving the current status and the subsequent destruction of hours of work on the next boot due to this time. I hope someone can correct this. NT |

You probably have "If there is no work available for the project(s) I have selected above, please send me work from another project." selected and you might have SN2S selected where there is no work at the moment. Un -select everything except FAAH.

Hello Alan,
I am afraid your reply was not much help. I do not know what SN2S or FAAH means. I went into My Grid-> Project and de-selected "If there is no work available for the project(s) I have selected above, please send me work from another project" but now I am getting no work. |

On your project selection you will find - "Fight Aids @ Home" - select that one

Hello Nigel Trewartha,
WCG is currently running 3 projects. They are FightAIDS@Home (FAAH), Clean Energy Project - Phase 2 (CEP2) and Say No 2[To] Schistosomiasis (SN2S). If you select FightAIDS@Home and/or Say No To Schistosomiasis, you will bee running projects that checkpoint several times an hour and complete in just a few hours. I keep loosing executed time even though my computer is running 24X7. The issue appears to be happening when I do a communication with WCC to report completed task. I get new task as expected but some of the new task are high priority. This causes current running task to change to Waiting to Run. Once another running task completes the Waiting to Run task resumes, but it goes back to the last checkpoint - which is usually at 22 to 25 minutes. I will sometimes get 2 or 3 high priority task resulting in the lost of over a dozen hours each day. Any suggestions on how to stop this other then opting out of CEP2?

If you look through Help and the CEP2 forum, you'll find that the 'Recommended' setting when doing CEP2 is to activate 'Leave Application in memory when pre-empted/suspended" aka LAIM. [Preference works on all clients, from about 5.10.xx]
----------------------------------------The newer [dev.] clients actually do this automatically, to preserve progress for tasks that do not checkpoint frequently, but are pre-empted because higher priority tasks arrive, i.e. when LAIM is not selected. Doing a Clean Mobility Net [QMC] task now that does one checkpoint every 2% progress, but each 2% takes about 8 hours on this host. Inquiry with the developers revealed this 'improvement', though some of course will complain when tasks stay in memory when BOINC is paused, so to underline, this is understood, by me, as only enforced when a task is pre-empted when BOINC is briefly auto-paused when the non-BOINC CPU load is above a set % [default 25 or 50%, depending how new a client/device profile is]. edit: Spell 666 corrections. Hello garyblum,
Let me add a few tips. The CEP scientists have a web page at http://cleanenergy.molecularspace.org/participate/ which has a link titled Tips and Tricks for Custom Settings for CEP2 (Pdf file, 130Kb). This link downloads a PDF file with suggested settings. Personally, I use these settings: Workunit Cache Settings Connect to network about every 0.1 days Cache 0.0 extra days of work I never draw any high priority work units. Lawrence |

I think I'm having a very similar problem. This happens rather frequently and I have no idea why, though I leave my computer running at all times and I don't even log off. Here's part of the event log showing an "exit with zero status but no 'finished' file" message, and here's the full log since the program started.
Please help. :'( |
