Hi GUys
----------------------------------------can anyone throw some light on this issue and how I might resolve it? One of the 3 HD7770's in one of my machines is showing only 960 gflops, the other 2 are 3200gflops as in: 02/09/2013 21:01:42 | | CAL: ATI GPU 0: AMD Radeon HD 7700 series (Cape Verde) (CAL version 1.4.1741, 1024MB, 984MB available, 960 GFLOPS peak)I've reinstalled the drivers afresh after removing them and restarting, I've checked they are all picking up the correct driver and all are showing the same version. Any suggestions? Many thanks

Try swapping slots to see if it is a card problem or a slot problem.

Thanks Joe - Just tried that, different GPU different slot. Even 3 different GPU's...
----------------------------------------Then... Removed drivers. shutdown, removed (and kept separate) the first 3 GUP's, replaced with 3 different GPU's (still HD7770's) restarted, reinstalled drivers. Same result! 02/09/2013 22:06:37 | | CAL: ATI GPU 0: AMD Radeon HD 7700 series (Cape Verde) (CAL version 1.4.1741, 1024MB, 984MB available, 960 GFLOPS peak) Edit - typo's removed & added log details

I'd guess that 2 of the slots are sharing lanes.. 2 PCIe x16 [x16, x4] kinda thing. Though it doesn't make much sense to me why bandwidth would be factored into the GFLOP benchmark. *shrugs*:)

Now it begs the question "What is different about slot 0 versus slots 1 and 2 ?" Maybe look at your motherboard specs.

Your first 2 PCI-E slots are probably x16 slots. They will run @ x8 with dual cards. Your third slot will only run @ x4 with cards in the other 2 slots. Check your mobo owners manual. Try rebooting with just 1 card in either of the x16 slots and see what your readings are. The GFLOPS should be higher than it was with 2 or 3 cards.

The MB is an - Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z AM3+ AMD 990FX DDR3 ATX - the owners manual quotes 3 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (dual x16 or x16/x8/x8) so I would expect the first slot to be the fastest... it is slot 0 (zero) that is showing the issue. Any suggestions?

Which of the 3 cards serves as the one having the display plugged in? Given that you've been flopping cards around, it's clearly not the cards, but something in your setup. Oh, and this is not the first report of seeing this. Search forum... I don''t remember outcome, but something about order of driver installing would not surprise me or some silly jumper setting.
(And manuals do lie at times... maybe search the mfg forums for such a discussed issue). |
