Configuring app_config.xml

I'm trying to coax Boinc (7.0.65 x64) into running one and only one cep2 unit at a time on a Linux system (Ubuntu 13.04). Attempting to follow advice given elsewhere on this forum, I created app_config.xml in the Boinc directory and edited it to the following:

<app_config>
<app>
<name>cep2</name>
<max_concurrent>1</max_concurrent>
</app>
</app_config>

Yet this doesn't seem to be working as intended: multiple cep2 workunits still run. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Configuring app_config.xml

I believe you have to place this in the WCG projects folder.

Check the event log's first few lines for the Data Directory.
Then place the file in that directory/projects/www.worldcommunitygrid.org

Re: Configuring app_config.xml

Afterwards restart boinc and a new line should appear in the event log:

Restarting BOINC is not such a good advice specially when you've CEP2's running, since there is a much better way: From BOINC Manager Advanced menu -> Read config files

I didn't know that that also worked for the app_config file.
Thanks.

Re: Configuring app_config.xml

Thanks for the suggestions. I moved app_config.xml into the correct directory and read the config file from the Boinc menu: it duly acknowledged of app_config.xml in the event log. However Boinc seems to have got itself into a state where it can't get new cep2 workunits: it says no tasks needed in the event log. Trying various things...

Re: Configuring app_config.xml

If you are controlling CEP2 concurrent wu's with app_config then it may be good to go to the profile for that rig in My Grid (work home etc) and adjust the maximum wu's that the rig can hold at any one time

Re: Configuring app_config.xml

If you currently have the max number of CEP WU set in your device profile (mentioned above) you'll get a message saying something like 'no work available for CEP'. The default value for number of WU is 1 so that could be your problem.

Re: Configuring app_config.xml

I had the default WU setting set to 4 and initially Boinc only gave me one so I thought app_config might have been overriding that setting. But Boinc seems to have settled down now and things are working as intended. Thanks to everyone for their help and suggestions.
