Progress of CEP2 Units lost when computer is turned off

Hello,
I found out, that workunits had reached 20 per cent of completion, when I switched off my computer last time.
When I booted again, progress was lost and the work on the same workunits started again.

I run a linux system, Version 12.04 (precise) (32-Bit),
Kernel Linux 3.2.0-52-generic-pae
GNOME 3.4.2
AMD Athlon(tm) II X2 270 Processor × 2
Memory: 3,7 GiB
Memory available: 424,4 GiB

Note: leave application in memory is checked, application should stay in memory......

Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Greetings
MS

Re: Progress of CEP2 Units lost when computer is turned off

Martin, when you "switch your computer off", all it's memory is lost - and thus, all the progress it's made on a CEP2 WU. Now, if you meant to say "sent my computer into hibernation", then that's another matter.

Can you please clarify...

Re: Progress of CEP2 Units lost when computer is turned off

Hello,
thank you for trying to help.
But: I really meant switching of my computer.

And , too be honest I would be astonished, if switching of someones machine should really mean loosing the progress that has already been made.

Progress should be saved on the hard disk when switching off, shouldn't it?

Thank you for any further help

Re: Progress of CEP2 Units lost when computer is turned off

To complete that reply, all progress "since last checkpoint" is lost when switching off, for any science. For CEP2, the 3rd job and 12th job (#2 and #11 in the result log), are the two multi hour steps, no interruption allowed. LAIM has to be on for pausing retaining the task in memory and only hibernation or sleep allows resuming from the last second computed since the full memory state is stored to disk or held in memory at low power.

Ok, thanks.
I will occasionally read everything about those checkpoints on the forum first.
