Thanks everyone for your comments, to answer a few questions raised here..
Sgt.Joe - one of the features we'll be adding is a visual way to show each research project's progress, so you have a better sense of how far along each project is. With the usual caveat of course that things change - for example if the research team decides to run more work after looking at the results, etc. jonnieb-uk - both new team members are technical and will be working mostly on developing the new features which came out of the study. This allows the rest of the team to focus on supporting the existing projects and onboarding the new ones. Scribe - yes, we're definitely interested in bringing on more GPU projects, but it's not our decision to make. The researchers have to first decide to enable GPU processing on their application before we can port that application to the Grid. We continue to pitch the idea (and benefits) to our current and upcoming researchers. |

the "download" page is making viewers who have windows 8 jump through another hoop.
----------------------------------------a small link sends them to a technical message.... ugh ! really you don't want people to right away run into a 'problem' when they are first looking here. it could be an old lady who will not understand a word. http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/reg/ms/viewDownloadAgain.do https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,33527 [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at Aug 19, 2013 9:24:47 PM] |

@ jhindo World Community Grid Admin
----------------------------------------Thank you very much for an informative response to the points raised by myself and others earlier in the thread. I think we all realise the WCG team have to prioritise their time and that responding to individual Forum Posts ranks very low. In point of fact many posts can be dealt with either by the more knowledgeable members or by the Community Advisors SekeRob and lawrencehardin (knreed did say, in early June, that action on [additional] CAs was under discussion). Nevertheless I reiterate the point made in my original post, that keeping the Community updated on progress is important. |

I too was pleased to see the survey results released along with plans for how WCG will respond.
----------------------------------------Although I have long been aware that men outnumber us women crunchers, I was surprised that it was by a 9-to-1 ratio. I will be thinking about ways to recruit women and girls to crunching, as I know so many of them really want to help in humanitarian causes however they can. Very exciting that the new cancer project is due "this fall." With this being mid-August, fall can't be far behind! ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by kateiacy at Aug 21, 2013 12:58:18 AM] |

The results of the survey certainly show a bunch of contributing folks with the same concerns.
----------------------------------------This survey should make it clear to those running the show that after a fair amount of time has passed there are things that still need fixing to keep the contributors happy. I think this survey was a worthwhile exercise and I hope those concerns are addressed sooner rather than later. You know what I would really like to see ?? BOINC release an up to date version option that is multi-threaded.... That and more GPU projects. Why? I just feel it would be fun for some to build clusters (either high or low end) and I feel these two things would bring members back and new members too. ![]() |

To me the following is one of the more significant findings - Graphics card (GPU) processing is a significant reason why volunteers might prefer other volunteer computing initiatives. In that case I think WCG should be more 'open' about the future of GPU here. I know that I have just invested in an HD 7770 card in anticipation and want to use it here and not Conjecturing something else. I think the communications feedback and the GPU initiative are two particularly worthwhile aspects of the report. The fact that WCG went through the process is good and I look forward to the implementation phase. The report itself was well prepared, polished and a good communications model for future reports keeping us crunchers in the loop. Thanks, WCG! ![]() crunching, crunching, crunching.
