It minor, I know, but it would be helpful to be able to hide it away and not accidentally open it (or accidentally close it).

Yuo already can, and hide from the task bar also.

....had a sudden thought......are you talking about the Android app? In which case you question is better placed in the correct forum here

Are you talking about Linux? If you are you may just exit the manager as the tasks will continue to run.
