We have 4 android devices ... Invalid isn't the same as an error. Check the results status for the invalid WU. What may have happened is that your result and that of the wingman were different enough that the WU was sent to a third cruncher and their result was in line with the wingman's instead of yours so they got marked valid and your's invalid. You still should have gotten some credit for the WU, just not full credit. On very rare occasions, I'll see an invalid on one of my machines. However, you're seeing more and regularly. Since this seems to be common to your android devices, I checked over in the Android Support forum and saw the thread there on this issue. From reading that, it sounds like the smartphone/tablet makers may be making some bad compromises in order to beat the competition to market. They're putting out devices that they claim are multi-core but are either buggy or unreliable. If it's the OS, that may be something they can eventually fix with an upgrade. If it's hardware, that means replacing the device to fix it. Good thing is that othes are having the issue so it's not just something you're doing. With the admins looking in to it, something will get sorted out in time. It could be the android version of BOINC or it may be that BOINC is pushing the devices to levels the makers didn't. |

I've notice with the MCM wu's, they seem to be consistent in their times, now. I have about 15 WU's ready to report, and they all took just short of four hours to complete (give or take just a few minutes). Okay, I'll have to watch some WU's from after the break. What I was seeing was with WUs from after MCM1 went production but before the pause. It's not so much a problem as something that has a bigger risk of impacting you in certain circumstances. Let's see how the latest WU are looking..... Well, now I have to take back what I wrote. I have five results ready to report: four of them completed in 2 /12 hours while the other one is over three hours. You're right, Keith, they're all over the place. Well, when I was noticing this, the differences in times were in multiple hours. Since MCM was resumed, it's much, much better. I'm seeing 3.3 to 4 hours per WU on my quad and 5-6 on my C2D. As I understand things, BOINC 6.x used estimated completion times and BOINC 7.x switched to estimated FLOPS. When you ask for X amount of work in your cache, BOINC 6.x would get an amount of work based on your current estimated completion times. If WUs ran longer that expected, your estimated completion time would go up and adjust for that. With BOINC 7.x, I think the estimated FLOPS is determined by the project and that is translated into time based on your benchmarks. If a WU runs longer that expected, there's nothing for BOINC to adjust. If WUs are more prone to variability, that X amount of work you want in you cache could end up being more or less than that. The bigger the cache, the more that could manifest itself and the bigger risk it could become an annoyance. What's harder to determine with BOINC 7.x is what the estimated FLOPs pattern is across WUs. It's tempting me to upgrade from 7.0.64 to 7.2.28 on my C2D. The quad is still 6.10.58. |
