Regular readers will have noticed the absence of The Hunt for Improbable Island's Distributed Supercomputer from today's morning update. We've achieved 2 out of 3 targets and the third is probably only 7 or 8 weeks away. The segment now takes up too much space and imparts too little new information. It will now change to the following:
----------------------------------------UK Team Ranking RunTime Points Results Currently the UK Team is estimated to pass Improbable Island's Distributed Supercomputer in the RunTime rankings sometime between 26-Jun and 04-Jul |

I am also upgrading my internet to 152Mb next week as I am sure the extra bandwidth will come in handy! Thats what I'm on with Vermin Media. VM usually give you a 'free' boost of about 10%, so you should hit around 167mb down. If you're a heavy downloader (like I am), VM have an annoying habit of managing traffic at certain times for certain applications. If I was to download something right now, I'd hit about 167mb. But, if I was to try at around 8pm, I'd be lucky to see 100mb. VM won't admit what they do, but it's obvious! I get all my downloads from a premium newsgroup, which can handle any speed! I currently have the 100Mb package with Virgin and also am a big downloader, although I am an even bigger uploader at present as I am backing up content to the cloud. I get throttled at 50% on my uploads between 4 - 11 pm Mon to Fri, and 11 am - 11pm Sat & Sun as per VM traffic management. The 152Mb package will give my twice the upload speed so even with the throttles in place it is still worthwhile.

Bah, courtesy of BT, I'm still stuck on a prehistoric 14Mbps connection (with only 1Mbps upload)!
----------------------------------------![]() I'm not directly with BT, but xDSL generally relies on them to update most of the infrastructure - my exchange has been upgraded but not my green roadside cabinet, so I'm still stuck on ADSL2+ until that upgrade happens (if it ever does). VM also haven't built out to my area, yet, either... ![]() |

I have watched units complete and then not appear in results. I don't understand, AdrianPH. The WUs should appear on the Results Status page as soon as you get them. Both before and during execution they should appear with Status "In Progress". If you're not seeing even that then I can only assume that the account you're looking at is not the one that downloaded the WUs. Did you accidentally generate a second account at some point? Just my 2p'th. |

That really is very strange AdrainPH. Can't say that I've ever noticed results disappear, some have validated very quickly and been removed from the Results screen but as far as I know always appearing in my completed totals. Do you have more than one machine returning results but only going missing from one machine? Trying to think of what else to check.
----------------------------------------150meg downloads! Pfffft, blinking show-offs! @JonnieB, looking at the rank change for myself I have to admit that I didn't think mine would change that much in a month, thought it would have slowed a bit more than that. Don't tend to notice the rank unless it goes into the next 'thousand'. |
