Morning Everyone smile

I've stood underneath a Vulcan Bomber but have only ever see it fly on TV.

Re: Air Days 2014

Another interesting sighting, while on a refuel-stop in Bangor (Maine) on the way to Florida in the summer of 1993, was one of the massive Antonovs (I think it was the An-124, but it was over 20 years ago, so might be wrong) doing a taxi & take-off.

It hardly looked like it was at walking speed before it slowly lifted into the sky, was an amazing thing to watch.

Re: Air Days 2014

Those Antonovs, aren't they the ones that are so big that they could carry the entire of Wales in them? OK, may have exaggerated a smidge there!
Do wonder how they ever take off though.

TMC, while video of the Vulcan can be superb (and there are some good ones on youtube), like most things (sport, music), it is so much better 'live'. The RAF air days from the late 70's and early 80s near me were superb for the full effect of the Vulcan and other Cold War jets. And I won a picture in a penalty shoot-out at one!

And congratulations to jacquiob for the first result, here's to many more applause biggrin

Re: Air Days 2014

Have also seen the Beluga (sp?) cargo-transport (which looks insanely big), as Broughton Airport (next to the BAE factory where the Airbus wings are made) isn't too far away from my parents' house.

Re: Air Days 2014

Talking about early RAF Transport aircraft.......in the late 50's I was an Army Apprentice at Harrogate. One Wednesday sports day the Platoon Sgt asked if any of us fancied a flight in an RAF plane......(NEVER VOLUNTEER!).....We were taken to RAF Leeming (I think) and went on board a Beverly Beverly In this the bottom was the cargo and up and in the boom were passengers. We took off and started circling around over Yorkshire, an RAF crewman then came back and encourages us to unstrap and move around, pointing out various landmarks from each side of the craft and showing us parts of the cabin........nice flight and we landed after about 2 hours. Just before we disembarked a senior RAF Officer came to the rear and thanked us for helping train new pilots............we had been encouraged to move about to get them used to the altering trim which had to done manually!!!!! Never volunteer devilish

Re: Air Days 2014

Hmmm, wonder why it's called a Beluga?! Just done an image search and in some it almost looks like it's eating the cargo! A flying Pac-Man tongue

Don't think I've ever seen one of those Beverly aircraft, I'm no expert in aircraft. Hmmm, volunteer eh? Not sure I'd want to have been told hypnotized

Re: Air Days 2014

Good morning everyone. smile I remember from my ATC days being at one end of the runway at Biggin Hill during an airshow, 3 Mosquito's flying overhead at full belt, 6 Merlin engines. They had been flown for the film 633 Squadron.
