BOINc message: Server error: High load. Deferring request

knreed Nov 8, 2013 2:34:06 PM
The BOINC scheduler didn't have a way to handle situations where it was overloaded. This had the effect of really bogging down the server and preventing new work from being loaded in (because the feeder was slowed down).

As a result, we added a mechanism so that when the server load exceeds a certain threshold, then it sends a back off request to the client with that message. It is a temporary situation and your client will retry automatically. It is also on the server side and thus there is no action required on your part.

Re: LunchCrunch Report

@JonnieB - whilst perusing the Morning Update, noticed lfcfadam and sjh1001 had lept up 20+ places in the Points but according their individual stats pages, neither has ever returned a result for the team. I can't see how they have moved up so am I missing something blatantly obvious?

@=#?+!!
I forgot to remove them. blushing They're phantom results caused by modifying the team rankings to accommodate the latest two new members. It can only occur when a new member doesn't crunch on their first day.

Where would I be without your eagle eye to keep me on my toes! wink

No problem JonnieB, was just checking I wasn't going too mad (that'll be next week when I return to loo loo la la land aka work wink )

Re: LunchCrunch Report

And I have my first WUs for the new project! biggrin

They look quite big - around a 30MB download, and my physical (slow) server estimates around 21-22 hours.

The new Cancer Project is announced:

Welcome to Mapping Cancer Markers

The first batch of 10,000 work units was set to a 3 day deadline so we can get these results back to the researchers faster. The rest of the work units will be sent with a 10 day deadline after that.

Thanks,

-Uplinger

As of this moment (17:27) My Grid >> Work Profiles are not available presumably project selection is being updated.

Wrong! My Grid is now My Contribution

re CEP2
We have increased the limit of temporary disk space that CEP2 can use from 2GB to 2.5GB. If you continue to have issues please let us know.

Thanks,

armstrdj

Globe Sigs

SNURK'S Globe List shows that of UK team members only gordoma will be affected by the new project, slipping back from Sapphire to Ruby sad

Everyone else, of course, will just have to wait that bit longer for their next Globe color. i.e. RunTime is now divided by 22

Recent website changes
________________________________________
Today, we launched our new Mapping Cancer Markers project, and with it, you may have noticed a few changes in our appearance. As we mentioned in our report on the Member Study, we will be making changes to our website over the coming months to appeal to a wider audience.

Today's changes, which center around a slight re-organization of the website navigation, are the first step to bigger changes coming in the future. The intention is to better highlight the research we support and demonstrate the scale of our volunteer community, while giving you easier to navigate tools to manage your contribution.

For this release, the specific changes are:

• We moved functional tools, such as Help, Forum, Download and language selection to a more easily accessible top utility bar, above the website header.
• Separation of what was previously 'My Grid' into two sections:

o 'My Contribution' within the site's main navigation, which groups together your statistics, project selections, teams and results.
o 'Settings', in the now expanded utility bar. This includes your profile information and device management, as well as Twitter integration and widget.

These changes set the foundations for making our website easier to use and giving our members a richer volunteering experience. We hope you'll enjoy the changes as we roll them out.

Thank you for your support!

Re: In Other News

Comments: I dont like that I can't get to "Recent Threads" as quickly as I use to. A drop down menu on the forum button giving the options would be greatly appreciated by me. And now having to add your P/W to get to things like device manager is annoying.

With the new project.... WOO!!!!

My first work units are set to run in 4 hours. And I'm currently doing a mix of about 80%CEP2 (to get sapphire) and 20%MCM.

Re: In Other News

I've set everything over to the new project, but I won't be aborting any work units to start my badge hunt early (got a feeling that plenty of others will do that, I don't want to put any unnecessary load on the servers).
