Hi,
As it will run only when the smartphone is charging, will it slow down the charging? If so, by how much? Thanks! |

Hello Kent Tong,
The BOINC settings say: run while plugged in. This language was developed for laptops. The smartphone / tablet BOINC was developed to run while plugged in and battery at 90% or better charge. So . . . Yes, the battery will charge the last 10% slower than normal. How much slower? That will depend on the model and whether you are only running 1 thread or multiple threads. Lawrence |

Thanks for the reply. Will it run when the phone is both being charged and the power is at least 90% or when just either condition is met?

Kent,
----------------------------------------The delay is almost irrelevant. I have a Galaxy SIII and set it to start to cruch when pluged and my battery is over 20%. I set to 100% CPU, 4 CORES and RAM at 100% and it is charging almost as fast as used to be. ![]() |

I have installed it and share it on FB. In particular, I described it like below to make the point clearer:
It will only run when your smartphones are charging and the charge level is over 90% (typically in overnight charging). Because the optimal charge level of smartphone batteries is 40%-80%, installing this app is actually good for the lives of your batteries (actually I changed the configuration from 90% to 80% to prevent it from going too high). I'd like to add it to the Android boinc FAQ (http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Android_FAQ) but has unfortunately the WiKi doesn't allow user registrations. |

Charge rate also depends on your charger. I have different chargers that I use for my phone depending on where I charge it and I have noticed that some take longer than others. Whether or not the phone is turned on or if WiFi is turned on makes a difference too. So running BOINC while charging will definately affect the time it takes to reach a full charge, but you will have to conduct your own trials to determine the effect with your particular hardware combination.
