This has probable been asked several times but my search of the forums didn't turn it up.
----------------------------------------I got a new computer about 3 weeks ago and was just getting around to starting up BIOINC. When I tried to install I discovered the current version isn't supported by Win8. If there's a date the new version is expected to be available I'll put it on my calendar. A couple of suggestions: If there's such a planned date you could add it to the Win8 item in the sticky notes and update it if it changes. Also, consider adding a note when a person starts to download the software that it doesn't work on Windows 8. ![]() |

Hello i_am_jim,
No target date. Just go to BOINC at https://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php or look at All Versions at https://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php I am not going to spend any breath defending the absence of a WCG approved version for Windows 8. Lawrence |

Hello hunter1978,
What i_am_jim is talking about is that BOINC 7.0.64 lacks the magic WCG seal of approval. the WCG Download page at https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/reg/ms/viewDownloadAgain.do offers the WCG-approved BOINC 6.10.58 for Windows 7 but if you want BOINC for Windows 8 it says "• Windows 8 and Mac OS X Mountain Lion 10.8 users" and links to https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,33527 which in turn links to the BOINC Download site at https://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php/ which offers BOINC 7.0.64. This is round-about and can worry members. As of today, it is obvious that the WCG staff have been busy working on BOINC for Android. We do not have enough hands and minds to work on everything simultaneously, so we are often behind where we would like to be. Lawrence |

It was this from the download page that worried me:
----------------------------------------We will change our recommended version of the Windows and Mac client after the following activities are completed: That left me with the feeling there were defects and security issues and that it had not been tested in the field.1) Extensive testing of client functionality and resolution of any identified defects 2) Security review of the source code and resolution of any identified defects 3) Observations of the behavior of the official BOINC version in use by large numbers of users |

Hello i_am_jim,
That left me with the feeling there were defects and security issues and that it had not been tested in the field. More than half our members are running on BOINC 7 without problems. It is embarrassing that we have not completed the security verification yet but it seems to be OK. It has been looked at off and on, but other things have kept the work unfinished.Lawrence |

I've been using it since it first came out almost 2 years ago. There are other projects besides WCG that require a version 7 to even run their apps. No need to be concerned if you upgrade. Version 7 is also much better optimized to run GPU apps.
In 1969 I took an oath to defend and protect the U S Constitution against all enemies, both foreign and Domestic. There was no expiration date.

Would like to confirm this While the HCC GPU app was running here I kept a lot of records concerning resends I received. 95%+ of the resends that were sent to my crunchers came from machines running a 6.xx.xx version of BOINC. Now I know that there are more people still running older versions but I doubt it's a 95/5 split because people who have run GPU apps before have upgraded. IMHO the statistics say version 7 is better on GPU apps than 6. YMMV. ![]()

Would like to confirm this I think that knreed once posted the numbers for different BOINC versions. I added them up and BOINC 7 had more than half. Lawrence |
