The upcoming U.S. Supreme Court decision on the viability of the BRCA1 patent.

NaturalNews) Angelina Jolie's announcement of undergoing a double mastectomy (surgically removing both breasts) even though she had no breast cancer is not the innocent, spontaneous, "heroic choice" that has been portrayed in the mainstream media. Natural News has learned it all coincides with a well-timed for-profit corporate P.R. campaign that has been planned for months and just happens to coincide with the upcoming U.S. Supreme Court decision on the viability of the BRCA1 patent.

Re: The upcoming U.S. Supreme Court decision on the viability of the BRCA1 patent.

Hi Gerald I understand where you are going with this one

But

My brother lost his Wife to breast cancer in 2010. Her Mother some maybe 10 years earlier also lost her life to breast cancer.

There is a genetic element to some cancers without a doubt.

I know that at least one of my Brothers Wife's Sisters has had a pre-emptive mastectomy as a result.

So it may not be a PR stunt

It may just be a lady weighing up her odds and making her own decision.

I hope out of what we are doing here there may be a better choice for people with Cancers and potential Cancers in the future including my Brother's Daughters...

As I sit here right now and seeing the effects of surgery, chemo and radiation therapies today on members of my wider family and friends (6 aunties and uncles in the last 3 years alone) I personally think I would like to remain intact and just go naturally.

But I'm not facing the Big-C right this minute and who knows how people react in that moment or to that life threatening information.

I am sensitive to your own personal position and hope that this doesn't cause any hurt or offence.

I am sure no lady willingly gives up her breasts except to keep living for another day.

I can't think of another way to put it and I stumble over this as I'm not the gender to comment.

Angelina Jolie may well have made the right decision for her life in her circumstances. I know it's news but really are we in the know to make comment?

Dave

Dave--No offence as you know my wife died from breast cancer and to my thinking the doctors killed her for two years before she passed to the other side--there are other treatments that do work--i personally know a lady that chose alternate treatment twice and she is in her late 70s still breathing--if i had known about some of these things sooner my wife may still be here--

We're on the same page Gerald with respect to todays "treatments"

Things have to get better as a result of our work here, other grid projects and the dedication of doctors and scientist working in this field.

Let's not unnecessarily tar them with the profit motives of Big Pharma.

Things just have to get better.

Now I am forced to say Darn I am as angry as heck again

But we both know what that really means

You have a peaceful weekend

Dave

Not to belabor the point, but breast cancer is not specific to women, even though the vast majority of breast cancer occurs in women. There are some men who do get breast cancer and die from it.
At any rate it makes no sense to me that a company can patent a gene. They should be able to patent a test for a gene, but not the gene itself because it occurred naturally. Now if it was a gene which did not exist in nature, but they "invented" a new gene, then that maybe should be patentable.
Jonas Salk did not patent his polio vaccine, but made it available to the world.

In Europe we are very against that form or mercantilism of the living
matter. The gene is part of everybody's ADN. They say it is about
3000 USD for the test, and this US firm want world monopoly
In France Institute Pierre & Marie has obtained the same possibility
for BRAC 1 & 2 for cheaper and available in public hospital ,the charges covered by the social security system.
BEWARE OF BIG PHARMA !! crying

Re: The upcoming U.S. Supreme Court decision on the viability of the BRCA1 patent.

How about we all just agree that whether we are male or female we work to try and do what we can to try and stop any disease.
Cancer has hit my family also but not with the frequency it hits others.
To me losing my Grandmother to it back in the 1960's is something I won't ever forget and then one day walking through a cancer childrens ward was what motivated me to do what I can. My only regret is that I don't have the funds to do more.
