No work for PPC based Mac Mini since May 1

I haven't received any work tasks since May 1 2013. I am running an old PPC based Mac Mini so my choices are limited I know. I have made no changes and have the option to send any project if no selected project work is available. 2 weeks seems a long time for nothing to be available. Has the PPC been abandoned altogether?

Re: No work for PPC based Mac Mini since May 1

Did refer this to knreed a small week ago... clients, not only PPCs, being told there is no work for anything when of course there is. Suspected solution: Shut down the GPU pipe and add

<no_gpus>1<no_gpus>

to the [often to be created] cc_config.xml when anyway the choice was made / or hardware does not support GPGPU computing.

The manual to edit/create the file is here: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Cc_config.xml

Thanks but if it can't be done via the GUI I can't do it.
You presume too much.
Thanks much though.

Mac OS-X has no flat text editor like Windows and Linux have? Boy, I must be one presumptuous specimen ;>)

Re: No work for PPC based Mac Mini since May 1

This just puts the Mac Mini one step closer to retirement.
The only other thing running is Printopia so I can print from my iOS devices to a non ePrint printer.
It is just strange things stopped. I didn't change anything in Boinc. As a matter of fact I haven't changed anything on the Mac Mini in over a year.
Thanks though.

Hello schmidtj,

You have not stated what OS your Mac Mini is running, but Lion and Mountain Lion contain TextEdit with which you can create / edit xml files. Other possibility (also free of charge) is Xcode wink

Cheers peace

ETA: or you can download this file http://f.cl.ly/items/3X1v2K16391c2K1x062X/cc_config.xml (right click, "Save file from link as...") to Library / Application Support / BOINC Data and after that, to set permissions, you have to re-install BOINC

It's not just your machine. My G5 hasn't been sent any WCG tasks since the first of this month either. There doesn't appear to be any work at the moment for the projects with PPC apps. My MacBook Pro hasn't had anything for those either (except for one FAAH) but it's getting Intel-only stuff OK.

Re: No work for PPC based Mac Mini since May 1

I'm trying to get some work for a PPC G4. From the supported projects (ccw,ddt2,hfcc,hcc,faah) I'm guessing only faah is likely to have any work available?

I have created a cc_config.xml file as suggested by sekerob. Here's the output of my event log:

Sun May 19 18:06:37 2013 | World Community Grid | No tasks sent
Sun May 19 18:06:37 2013 | World Community Grid | No tasks are available for FightAIDS@Home

I presume were it says coprocessors it means the gpu?
Anyway still no work, I'm beginning to think there's simply no work units for the PPC applications?
Guess I'll have to stick with SIMAP for now...

PS: schmidtj, You can hold down the option key and click branjo's link to download an xml file to your Downloads folder, then simply cut and paste into /Library/Application Support/BOINC Data. I didn't have to change any permissions/re-install to have it work for me. YMMV.

Re: No work for PPC based Mac Mini since May 1

Hello sunfolk,
Check System Requirements at https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=minimumreq

This says that both FAAH and HFCC are available for MAC PPC. HFCC is currently stalled until they can crystallize a protein (the very problem HCC is working on) and get Xray data for Target 11. If FAAH has no PPC work units, use contact to query the staff for a speedy response or wait for a post to this thread. I will drop a note to them.

Please be patient. Weekends are for rest.

Lawrence
