Upgrading to new Boinc version

I have not updated any of my BOINC versions in awhile because the last few times i tried I ended up with various errors due to an incomplete uninstall of the old version. The only way I could get back in action was to use Revo uninstaller to do a deep purge of anything associated with the old version or wipe the drive and re-install the OS. I found some help on the fourms that told me where to look in the registry to root out the last lingering files but It never cured the problem. I've also read on some of the threads that the problem lies with the Windows OS. This shouldm't be this difficult.

Forgive me if I missed it, but I could not find a simple process listed anywhere that worked. Could someone point me in the right direction to find the recommended process?

I'm running mostly Win 7 OS execpt for a few LINUX ubunto units. the LINUX machines upgrade just fine, as long as I stick with the ones offered on the standard software package site using the provided installer.

Thanks in advance

Re: Upgrading to new Boinc version

Still crunching but at a very reduced rate since since the GPU WU ran out. My RAC is slowly sliding from a high of 325 K down to 120K; expecting to settle out around 40k.
still waiting for the sig to update.

As for versions: everything from 6.10 on an old XP laptop to 7.0.28 on windows 7 and 7.0.27 on Linux.

Just trying to figure out if I'm doing something fundamentally wrong when I try to up date.

Ideally it shold be like up dating other windows programs -- click the upgrad button, it asks if you want to uninstall the old, say yes, and set back and watch and answer the menue questions. The next level down is doing an uninstall/reinstall. but neither have work smoothly for me.

and lastly, I've been called a lot worse things than "she" but I'm of the other persuasion :)

Re: Upgrading to new Boinc version

Whenever I upgrade to a new BOINC version it NEVER asks if I want to uninstall the old version, it just goes and stops the running version, installs the one requested, and carries on running. This applies even if I am going backa nd re-installing an earlier version for some reason or other! wink
