I moved a NVIDIA 580 card from a win 7 machine to a win 8 machine. Downloaded the latest dirvers from NVIDIA and the latest BOINC from Berkley.
----------------------------------------I added the file app_config.xml to both the Program Files>BOINC and the Program Files(x86)>BOINC folders since there is not a Program Data directory like in Windows 7. Aparently I have done something wrong as I can only get one WU to execute at a time. Anyone have any suggestions? |

The Program Data folder might be hidden by the system. AFAIK, the file has to be in the WCG project folder.

Falconet is absolutely right. One of the banes of running Windows is that each new installation needs a lot of modification to show hidden directories, file types, etc. It is easy to forget to do this.

As Falconet said, the ProgramData folder is hidden by default. You need to set Windows to show hidden files and folders and the app-config file has to be placed into the WCG project folder. Assuming 8 is the same as 7 you find the project folder by going My Computer>C/drive>ProgramData>BOINC>projects folder>WCG folder.

In the event log of Boinc Manager you will find the path to your Data folder.

Thanks Guys. So nice to be able to get help when you have a brain cramp. I did not think of that. I have this aversion to Windows 8 and I just did not think that it is as similar to Windows 7 as it really is under the covers. Looks like you were right and I found it, added the file and ... I am all smiles again. Thank You again. I appreciate it.
----------------------------------------Nano: I had tried it with 7.0.28 prior to seeing your note. You were right that the config file would not work with that version. I had to go all the way to 7.0.62 because that is the only one available on the BOINC site now. It seems to be running OK at this point guys. Again Thank You. |

One of the bonuses of the newer version is you can make changes to the app_config (or any config file) and apply them without shutting down and restarting BOINC. After making changes just go to Advanced and click on Read config file.
