... and the agent never really launches. i can go through the install just fine, but when the agent tries to register, i'm missing text. if i click around i can get it to submit, and i even registered fine, but when the agent starts i get an error alert -- with no text in it.
check the screen shots. on startup: during registration i'm running win xp pro (was sp2, but i uninstalled sp2), amd athlon 2.6GHz processor, big vid card, 1600x1200 resolution, 512MB RAM. i run tgtsoft's stylexp, but i have disabled it, and tried reinstalling, to no avail. anyone having similar problems? any answers? |

Same problem here ! Agent installed cleanly on my office PC, two home machines and colleague's home machine[all winxp-sp2], but gives the same text-less dialogs on another three office machines - two WinXP-SP2 and one Win2k.
Please give some advice on how to correct the problem. Thanks in advance. |

I installed the software on 3 computers and had the problem once during installation. After a reboot everything was fine.

No go ! After restarting, when UD agent loads, all three machines gave the dialog with the white X in red circle as icon, without text of course, after which the agent either crashes silently or just exits.
Please fix the damned bug, as it currently grealty reduces the chances of running the agent on ~100 good machines ;). |

Umm, at the risk of sounding AOL-ish.... Me Too.
Windows XP/SP2, Dell Precision 220. Just installed 10 minutes ago. Is there any indication that the developers are following this thread? I have (naively at the time, but upon reflection, I'll leave it) posted in "suggestions" thread. -- /PJ |

Check over in the support forum at grid.org. They have a similar problem listed there which was to do with the new version of macafee!

To all the people who have reported this, are you all running McAfee 8.0? If not, can you please let us know what anti-virus software you are running as well as any software firewalls and spyware monitoring software? Thanks,

Following up by reading the thread at grid.org, the thread ends with:
Posted: Wed Nov 24, 2004 4:11 pm Ahh. Thanks ceesk, that points me in the right direction. We do run McAfee and that might be the problem. The machines having the problem all have version 8 installed. I'll post if anything works. Posted: Wed Nov 24, 2004 5:44 pm Well the McAfee overflow protection was the problem. Disabled it and it runs fine. I tried adding the processes and api files to the exclusion list in the overflow protection settings but it didn't help. So with it disabled UD is running fine. Thank you to everyone. So this seems to be a work-around for the problem with McAfee VirusScan 8.0 |
