Re: cpu time/real time! What should I expect?
|
I was recently given a hp G61 notebook computer. The computer has a 2.1 GHz microprocessor and 3 GBytes of ram memory. I was given the notebook because it was not working. I discovered it was a hard drive problem and since I had a spare I replaced the hard drive and installed Ubuntu on it. I wanted to make sure the notebook was fine so I installed Boinc on it. I am now running the notebook 24/7 to test it. I now look at the Boinc program and use a stopwatch on it. I have noticed that it takes over a minute and a half on the stopwatch for a minute to go by on the elapse time field. The notebook seems to run fine and I did the same test on my other computers. Some pass with a one to one correspondence with the stopwatch but others have the same problem with the elapsed field taking longer than the stopwatch. There is no problem with the results being sent back since I do not get any result being rejected as being invalid. I do not know if this is a hardware problem or a software problem?
