I just can't help but notice on my "techpowerup gpu-z" that my video card spends an aweful lot of time just sitting there.

Doesn't app_config require 7.0.40 or later?

7.0.28 and I put it in the correct file. It re downloaded a bunch of work units and I did not receive any error messages You need a version of BOINC higher than 7.0.40 for the app_config set up to work. http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=6698&sort=5#47597

Hi John,
----------------------------------------Since you have not stated some important facts about your system, I will assume you are running most common Windows 7, 64-bit OS. If I am wrong, follow my recommendations, but change links according to your configuration. 1. Quit BOINC and all running tasks 2. upgrade your GPU driver together with the &qu...ion 13.1. from this link. 3. The app_config file has to be put into folder c:/ProgramData (hidden in W7 64 by default, you have to set "show hidden files and folders)/BOINC/projects/www.worldcommunitygrid.org 4. As nanoprobe stated, download and install 7.0.4x BOINC client from the link (s)he provided. I am using 7.0.44 and it is running fine. If you wish, you can go with 7.0.47 (I do not have any experiences with it, but see no reason why it would not work correctly). 5. To be able to recommend you as better app_config as possible, post here what CPU do you have. The app_config you have found and have posted here will ensure crunching 12 concurrent HCC1 GPU tasks on 3 CPU threads (aka cores). 6. Tell us, what do you want to crunch on those CPU cores (e.g., only WCG/HCC1 GPU tasks, or the combination of WCG GPU and WCG CPU tasks, or the combination of WCG GPU and some other projects' CPU tasks, or...). 7. When we will know the these info, we will recommend you next steps to optimize your output Cheers ![]() ![]() Crunching@Home since January 13 2000. Shrubbing@Home since January 5 2006 ![]() |

My CPU is an AMD Phenom(tm) II X6 1045T Processor
So it has 6 cores My video card is a Radeon HD 7970 (powercolor 3gb) I'd like to run the crap out of the video card on HCC Yes Windows 7 64 bit (thanks so much for helping) *I just upgraded my video card driver to 13.1 *I just downloaded and am running boinc 7.0.44 |

Great, so now you are running 12 GPU tasks on 3 CPU cores and 3 cores are running some other CPU tasks (guessing HCC1).
----------------------------------------Try this app_config, which has to crunch 12 GPU tasks on your 6 CPu cores: <app_config> <app> <name>hcc1</name> <gpu_versions> <gpu_usage>.083333</gpu_usage> <cpu_usage>.50</cpu_usage> </gpu_versions> </app> </app_config> Maybe it will make more of your Ferrari 2012 (i.e. HD 7970 ) if you run only 8 concurrent GPU tasks with this app_config (nanoprobe, for example, can say more about this - (s)he is successfully running 7970 for some time):<app_config> <app> <name>hcc1</name> <gpu_versions> <gpu_usage>.125</gpu_usage> <cpu_usage>.75</cpu_usage> </gpu_versions> </app> </app_config> It is up to you to experiment with app_config. <gpu_usage> tells you how many concurrent GPU tasks you would like to run (e.g. 8 tasks = 1/8=0.125). <cpu_usage> tells you how may CPU threads you would like to dedicate to GPU crunching (e.g. 6 threads / 8 GPU tasks = 0.75, or 3 threads / 8 GPU tasks = .375). Good luck and cheers ![]() Edit to add: When you change app_config, restart your comp ![]() Edit to add 2: Come back here time-to-time to ask a ![]() ![]() Crunching@Home since January 13 2000. Edit to add: When you change app_config, restart your comp You don't need to restart your computer when you make changes to the app_config file. You only need to shut down restart BOINC. @branjo- It's he. ![]()

Well thank you so much all!!!
According to Bam Stats I am at around 100K per day. Would ya'll do me a favor and show me how to do the app_config for a second video card 7970 added to my computer? |

app_config.xml is agnostic of multi-card assignments... it's only a quantitative tasks control for a specific project, in this case WCG. You need to mod cc_config.xml and add the <use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus> line to the <options> section to force use of all cards, if they're capable. Recently exampled in more detail how to assign particular work to specific cards [if you wish to control that], search forum on <exclude_gpu> including posts. Manual: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Cc_config.xml

Hi John,
----------------------------------------Glad to hear you are shrubbing over 100K (guessing BOINC Credits) per day and you are satisfy with it How many concurrent tasks are you running currently? What is your GPU utilization percentage? What number have you tried? And what was the GPU utilization with each of them? Based on this, we can recommend you (some) app_config(s) to maximize your production with your new GPU . Also,as SekeRob mentioned, you need to create cc_config to allow shrubbing on both GPU's.Cheers ![]() ![]() Crunching@Home since January 13 2000.
