Hi guys,
Hey I have a GTX 460 (256-bit) vidcard, and then a GT 240 (GDDR5) that is used as a dedicated PhysX board when gaming. BOINC uses the GTX 460 not the GT 240. This causes problems when for example viewing YouTube, causing me to shut down the BOINC. Anyone know how I can get it to use the GT 240? There is no monitor attached to the GT 240 which just sits there doing nothing while BOINC messes up my YouTube... If I can switch it, of course the GTX 460 has more powerful GFlops - but right now I am turning the BOINC off! So even using the less-powerful GT 240, if I can leave BOINC running there will be a net gain. I could simply disable GPU computing but that would be unfortunate since I do have two GeForce GPUs after all, heheh... Thanks for any help, Regards |

Plz tell us quick which client version you're using. For easy GPU control and advanced configuration I recommend to use 7.0.45, but it can also be done with 6.10.58.

Pending what reply you give, the lines to add to the cc_config.xml <options> section that would apply to all versions are:
----------------------------------------<use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus> Restart BOINC to confirm both cards are recognized. Then determine how BOINC identifies each of your cards with a device number, such as 0 or 1. Depending on that set up the following additional lines, substituting N with the card number not to use. <exclude_gpu>This is the manual setting up cc_config.xml if your BOINC data directory has not got one: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Cc_config.xml edit: remove square brackets around optional lines. Thanks for quick reply!
My version is 7.0.28. Are there new config settings in 7.0.45? I'm going to update and check it out. That cc_config.xml stuff looks complicated LoL... I do not even have a cc_config.xml file. L8R |

Resolved!
My (brand-new) cc_config.xml reads as follows: <cc_config> <options> <use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus> <exclude_gpu> <url>www.worldcommunitygrid.org</url> <device_num>0</device_num> </exclude_gpu> </options> </cc_config> This is great because now, instead of my GTX 460 suspending when I move the mouse, my GT 240 will run all the time! Thank you SekeRob - the <url></url> was not clear. But what it wanted was exactly as you typed it... Thanks again, Best Regards |

Great. Right now, you've set explicit for WCG's to not run on device 0, where before it was in my sample to only restrict WCG's HCC1 to not use that card, which is fine if you only do WCG GPGPU computing. If you remove the url line, nothing at all will ever run on device 0, no matter what project you sign up to.
