End of last week AMD released the latest Catalyst driver 13.1 available on their driver download page. For those who would like to experiment. I will install on one machine for test under Win7/64.
----------------------------------------Latest Beta is still 12.11 beta 11. I suppose this may change. ![]() |

13.1 is WHQL. Been running it since 19Jan. Big improvement if your crunching while using the computer as well.

Thanks for posting this. I have been aware of its existence for quite a while but held off because although it was available through the AMD site, it was still not available from card manufacturers' sites and I am always wary of using the generic rather than specific drivers if you see what I mean.
----------------------------------------I don't know if the AMD drivers are good for every card or if each is tweaked to suit the card versions as per the manufacturer. However, if there are performance improvements, I think it might be worth another search and trial of these new drivers. I wonder, do other users always use drivers as soon as they are posted on the AMD site, or do you wait for them to be made available from the card manufacturers? ![]() Crunching in memory of my Mum PEGGY, cousin ROPPA and Aunt AUDREY. |

Excellent news, I will probably test it and upgrade in two weeks time.
----------------------------------------Having a number of cards from various manufacturers I use the generic one as it would be otherwise to complicated to manage. When I do a change I install the same version on all machines. But these are not for gaming. For a gaming machine you may need drivers that are tweaked. ![]() |

I use only the AMD drivers even though I have cards of different manufacturers. It makes it easier to maintain multiple crunchers this way and I haven't had any problems with it. AMD sent me a notification email when 13.1 was available and I put it one one machine to try it out. I'll probably put it on the others this weekend.

When it comes to GPU-computing, I prefer to not come across surprises. There is not even one text mention of 'OpenCL' under the Catalyst driver 13.1 release-notes each for Windows and Linux. Is that a case of AMD doing an under-promise_over-deliver act so that a cruncher is set up for a pleasant suprise when he/she discovers GPU-crunching improvements that are not mentioned in the release-notes for Catalyst 13.1 driver? Hmm...
----------------------------------------![]() I wonder, do other users always use drivers as soon as they are posted on the AMD site, or do you wait for them to be made available from the card manufacturers? I can imagine that GPU branded card manufacturers would find it costly and difficult to support and maintain a branded GPU-driver for their specific branded GPU-card, not to mention use-case difficulties under user-scenarios as described in the postings of Hypernova and deltavee -- if not using AMD's reference driver.P.S. A few minutes ago (as I type), the planned minor outage seem to have began and this posting was hit. Moments later, the webpage response appeared to be faster than before, I feel like. ; ; andzgridPost#822 ; [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jan 24, 2013 3:25:14 PM] |

Thanks for posting this. I have been aware of its existence for quite a while but held off because although it was available through the AMD site, it was still not available from card manufacturers' sites and I am always wary of using the generic rather than specific drivers if you see what I mean. I don't know if the AMD drivers are good for every card or if each is tweaked to suit the card versions as per the manufacturer. There is very little if any difference between graphics cards from OEMs and the reference design from AMD. The changes can be as small as the stickers or the fan to larger changes such as the amount of RAM or the clockspeed. I doubt that drivers would be sensitive to these sort of changes. |
