Reply to this Post Reply with Quote [Delete this Post] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello everyone, Don't want to pour water on all of this wonderful creativity, but I know that IBM has given exclusive merchandising rights to one company for World Community Grid merchandise. I am trying to gather the information on the name of the merchant, website, etc. and will post back as soon as I receive the information. Thanks! [Aug 3, 2005 1:34:11 PM] ================================= Hi musicman and Graham, I'm sorry you probably missed this post from earlier in the week. WCG has given exclusive merchandising rights to one organization. I am in the process of obtaining the name and contact information for that vendor and will let everyone know. Thanks! Would one of the Grid Admins care to comment on this... that IBM has given exclusive rights? Or is someone blowing smoke? |

Would one of the Grid Admins care to comment on this... that IBM has given exclusive rights? Or is someone blowing smoke? Rudi -- Earlier I asked the WCG project manager about the use of the logo on T-Shirts. He did not indicate at that time that the rights had been given to anyone exclusively, and I would think he would be aware of such a fact. Because of this and also because we don't see some effort to sell such merchandise, I am a skeptic as to the veracity of that posting. I have seen some "trinkets" with the WCG logo, but they were not available for purchase. They were promotional giveaways from IBM. There have not been any T-shirts or baseball caps that I am aware of so far. As for the use of the trademarked logo, he indicated that he would pass the question on to his legal beagles. In past discussions, he has indicated that they hold their trademarks quite closely. He is now on vacation, so I have not gotten a final word from him on it. My personal (note that I have no official position within the WCG or IBM -- I am just a member and non-paid volunteer here) opinion is that use of the logo in a manner that does not put the effort in a bad light and encourages people to participate ought to be acceptable, but as I say, I have no official standing to say that. Well, my non-official position was dead wrong. I guess that proves that it was non-official I have just spoken with a member of the official staff within IBM and have found that they have given exclusive rights for merchandising to a couple of vendors. They are designing the T-shirt right now and are in the process of working with the vendor to have these and some other items available on a website for purchase. Hopefully we will see these soon. Sorry to have missdirected all of you with my speculations. Best Regards, [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Aug 6, 2005 11:35:15 AM] |

I guess efforts ought to be redirected towards making team t-shirts and the like hearing this. Perhaps the IBM'ers involved in this might recommend that the vendors check out Graham's work and discuss using some of his great graphics in their products. Just a thought ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Aug 6, 2005 11:45:40 AM] |

they have given exclusive rights for merchandising to a couple of vendors. I hope that the vendors are able to supply said merchandising to the the whole world without any extra costs due to shipping/handling/airmail. There are a lot of non US based people on here. Having said that, there are a IBM offices around the world wher they could be shipped to - IBM could always use some of their marketing budgets to send them to people. Good reverse marketing - IBM involved in a very worthy cause. |

Seems like things have progressed to a point that we can do no more to our own t-shirt idea...
nice work guys from the graphics and contributions of research and pledged donations of time, money and printing... Unfortunately, I doubt that these vendors will be creating these items to sell as cheaply as possible (while still being of high quality) to members like we were intending to... |

World Community Grid T-Shirts!
http://www.logostore-globalid.us/ProductList.aspx?did=1418 I am not sure if this violates the forum rules. "Please do not use World Community Grid forums for outside advertising or marketing of any kind". If so, please review and then lock this thread. This advertising and/or marketing may or may not be defined as 'outside' or 'inside'. I am guessing this advertising and/or marketing probably fits the definition of 'any kind'. ![]() |
