If Gas is short for Gasoline, what is it that is used for cooking? (Unless of course you use an electric stove/hob/oven...) The most common thing used for cooking is combustible material: wood, dung, brush, etc. Next after that would be probably electricity. Of course there is always propane, alcohol, solar, geothermal, methane, etc. Perhaps what you were really asking is what do you call natural gas? It's called natural gas. ![]() Distributed computing volunteer since September 27, 2000 |

I switched over to induction cooking and it's amazing. The only limitation is that you have use ferrous cookware and most of the induction cooktops will test a pot for you to let you know if it is acceptable.
----------------------------------------But I have some serious OCD when it comes to house fires so this is just a beautiful thing for me. You can have a box of cereal or pasta sitting right next to the "burner" the pot is sitting on and it might get a little warm just from passive transfer from the the hot pot. But otherwise, all of the heat is focused on the bottom of the pot and nowhere else. It's really marvelous. And it's pretty fast too, not to mention efficient. Right now I'm just using a cook top that draws less than 1500watts but even with that rating, it can heat about 3 quarts of cold water to a boil in about 35, maybe 40 minutes. I love it. ![]() ![]() |

...three of the more confusing phrases between the two sides of the pond - 1. "the motion has been tabled....." In UK means the motion will be discussed, US it won't. 2. In UK - "The student used a rubber to delete the word, in US.....well you know! ![]() 3. UK - "The play went like a bomb" (It was very very popular. In US just the opposite! Reminds me of when I was once at Memphis, TN. There was a hold up at immigration and I turned to another Brit traveller and said 'I could murder a fag'. (i.e. I'm desperate for a cigarette) I wonder if that had anything to do with why I was then taken off and subjected to an hour of 'What is the reason for your visit to the USA?' type questions. EDITed to give the UK->USA translation so as not to give 'offence' ![]() ![]() Crunching in memory of my Mum PEGGY, cousin ROPPA and Aunt AUDREY. I remember when you could go out back and get it for free, fresh-squeezed from your own personal dinosaur.
