I had to replace my GPU recently and now every WU I get errors out instantly.
The new GPU is a GTX 660 TI. Driver is 3.10.70 and my OS is win7 64 bit. Is there anything I should do? I tried resetting the project and removing, then rebooting and adding it again. Didn't work. Would I need to do reinstall boinc? |

Hello Dirk85,
I am not a GPU expert but I think that people will want to know whether you uninstalled the old GPU drivers before installing the new GPU? Also, I assume you would mention it if you were using app_info.xml before getting the new GPU running. Lawrence |

The driver was a clean install yes and I wasn't using an app_info.
This is from the boinc event log. 29/12/2012 13:56:49 | World Community Grid | Computation for task X0960092560333200709191000_0 finished 29/12/2012 13:56:49 | World Community Grid | Output file X0960092560333200709191000_0_0 for task X0960092560333200709191000_0 absent In result status the exit code is: - exit code -1073741521 (0xc000012f) Just ran a quick test with GPUGRID and those WUs seem to be running fine, but having trouble here. |

I had the exact same issue and I bet it is the OpenCL driver that didn't get uninstalled completely. Double check to make sure the older drivers are really gone. You may need to do another round of uninstall, re-install.
----------------------------------------For anyone having this problem switching between NV and AMD it can be very troublesome. I had this stuck so bad because OpenCL did not uninstall completly that my rig wouldn't even finish loading Windows. I had to plug in the old card to finish just so I could boot and finish cleaning up. Then installed the new card in a different slot, uninstalled the new drivers (yes, they had partially installed before) and finally re-installed the new drivers. If you are working with the AMD beta drivers I think you need to leave the SDK package as part of the install. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Dec 29, 2012 7:40:22 PM] |

Maybe, but I switched from a GTX 480 to a GTX 660 TI and use the exact same driver I used before. Though maybe because the 480 died while crunching (I think, was asleep at the time) it may have corrupted parts of openCL.
I'll try again tomorrow and this time I'll be as thorough as I can :) |

Maybe, but I switched from a GTX 480 to a GTX 660 TI and use the exact same driver I used before. It does not necessarily behave the same way, even if it is listed as the same driver. You need to do a clean uninstall. That is done by first removing all the Nvidia (or AMD if present) drivers from the "Control Panel/Programs and Features" listing (if you are on Win7), and reboot as necessary. Then run Driver Fusion to clean out all the Nvidia/AMD graphics card registry entries and reboot. Finally, install the Nvidia drivers again. Do a "Custom/Clean Install". I only install the graphics drivers, since that is all you need for the HCC work (though with AMD cards you also have to install the SDK to get the OpenCL drivers). But if you need the other drivers, then install them as well. |

No luck. Driver Fusion had a list of registry entries that it would only delete if I got the paid version though. I could delete them manually but for now I'm too busy to try. I'll just run GPUGRID instead.

So, quick question. In Client_state.xml there's this about my gpu.
<have_opencl>0</have_opencl> Which is strange because it does support openCL. I tried changing it to 1 but boinc changed it back to 0 again on startup. I got the idea to check because milkyway@home showed an error about my GPU not supporting openCL. Any chance this could be causing all my trouble? And if so, what could I do to get boinc to recognize the GPU does actually have openCL? |

Hello Dirk85 and welcome to WCG.
I'll just run GPUGRID instead. So, what do you need WCG's GPU-related assistance for?; ; andzgridPost#767 ; |
