Did you throw out some scrabble tiles and do the best you could? Or are you really going to try to blame yet another embarrassment on alcohol instead of stepping forwarding this time.
----------------------------------------Given some of the projects here, maybe the name you chose has a very special significance and story behind it that you might want to share. Or maybe like me, you just try to make up things that sound like they should mean something, but don't . . . d'oh, until you look them up and find out that they actually do but that they were just so obscure that the only way they even show up in google is in one of the 'book' results. That's the case with most of my userid's but this one I think I did actually seek out mainly for it being moderately arcane. ![]() ![]() |

My normal user ID ('proxima') goes back to the first user ID I ever used when I had to think one up quickly when joining an ISP back in about 1994. I saw it written on the side of a digital overhead projector tablet, and thought it sounded cool enough. Turns out it means "closest" / "nearest" or even "the next".
----------------------------------------It's been my "main" user ID for things ever since, including SETI@Home, United Devices, Folding@Home, distributed folding, Find-a-Drug, Rosetta@Home, and probably others I've forgotten. I seem to remember "proxima" was already taken when I joined WCG, so I used "alver" instead, which is the name of my company. The company in turn is named after a small (but attractive) river near to my home - the Alver River, in the Alver Valley. ![]() (previously known as 'proxima' on SETI, UD, distributed folding, FaD, and Rosetta) [Edit 1 times, last edit by alver at Dec 10, 2012 9:26:34 AM] |

Mine is a cannon from Age Of Empires III. I needed a nickname so I chose Falconet a very long time ago.

I'm using my nickname, because I'm a retired
, dreaming of past days watching nice ice pellets clear as crystal. Some people think it's my real name and I'm female, because of that name, but disappointing for them, I'm a male frog. |

At my last job, I was a chemist, working for the National Water Quality Laboratory. We developed and performed various analyses on water, sediments, sea creatures, and generally anything people wanted us to analyze -- we'd develop a method. Generally we used some type of chromatography, which would generate peaks corresponding to compounds of interest. Hence "littlepeaks". One of my coworkers called our place the National Peak Integration Facility.

Mine contains the initials of ALL the names (first and last) in my name. But it still needed something, so I tacked on a "man" (I mean, Superman and Spiderman did the same thing, right?)
