![]() Sorry to read that! I've got a couple of devices I'd like to move back to Linux but they have AMD cards and I'm out of compute capable NVidias to swap them with. ![]() Thanks for letting me know!

Bill P, I am going to try one last thing -- upgrading to Xubuntu 12.10. You run Mint 13, right? I believe it's based on Ubuntu 12.04, as is the version of Xubuntu on the machine I'm getting the errors on.
----------------------------------------I want to let BOINC run dry. THen I'll either upgrade or do a clean install of 12.10 (probably tomorrow). Will let you know whether that makes a difference.... ![]() |

Kateiacy, I was having the problem on Ubuntu 10.4 (kernel 2.6.32-45) and Mint 13 (Ubuntu 12.04 based Kernel 3.2.0-34). I looked at the possibility of using the AMD beta driver that I'm running on my Win devices but found a few references to kernel level restrictions so decided to not go that route. Also, the "Additional" AMD drivers on both versions are the same.
----------------------------------------FWIW, as long as you don't have any In Progress GPU tasks I believe you can do the upgrade without waiting for the queue to dry up. Thanks for keeping me in the loop. If I find out anything I'll post here as well. Fingers crossed and good luck!

The reason I'm cautiously optimistic that 12.10 will fare better is that I have run a dozen or so HCC GPU WUs on a different AMD machine under Xubuntu 12.10 and the fglrx driver. None have errored. This is a VERY limited FUsion processor, the AMD E-350 in a netbook. All its beta WUs and the real HCC GPU WUs have run through to the end and have uploaded, but have then become invalid. Thus I'm not running HCC GPU on it. But that fact that none errored out puts it ahead of my better machine.
----------------------------------------I'm trying one more thing on my HD 7750 machine right now (before upgrading the OS), namely I upgraded to BOINC 7.0.42. I'll report on that in the morning, and if it's no improvement, will do the OS upgrade tomorrow. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by kateiacy at Dec 13, 2012 2:28:15 AM] |

So far it looks as if BOINC 7.0.42 is making a big improvement, though it's not perfect. The machine has returned 22 HCC GPU tasks with only 2 errors. I'll see if that holds up (or maybe even gets better?) overnight.

Is there a Linux build of 7.0.42 [as of last night not mentioned in the test announcement]?

Is there a Linux build of 7.0.42 [as of last night not mentioned in the test announcement]? Just checked now. There's a Mac version but still no Linux counterpart published for download for BOINC_v7.0.42. I wonder what held back the Linux version. ---------------------------------------- -- Rob ![]() ; ; andzgridPost#733 ; |

The LocutusOfBorg ppa has 7.0.42 for Linux, and I'm running it on two machines. https://launchpad.net/~costamagnagianfranco/+archive/boinc ![]() |

The error rate picked back up during the night even with BOINC 7.0.42. I will do the OS upgrade today and see if that helps.
----------------------------------------By the way, POEM continues to run just fine on this machine, so the problem is specific to HCC GPU, not a general problem with OpenCL. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by kateiacy at Dec 13, 2012 2:33:36 PM] |
