I'm running a factory install of Windows 8 (64 bit, x64) and BOINC 7.0.31. I had no problems with the install.
----------------------------------------When I try to add World Community Grid as my account manager (using the address http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org), I am prompted to enter my user name and password. I do so, and I get the aforementioned error popup. The Notices tab says: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ : Notice from BOINC Message from account manager: permanent HTTP error Here's the event log: 12/5/2012 8:49:01 AM | | No config file found - using defaults 12/5/2012 8:49:01 AM | | Starting BOINC client version 7.0.31 for windows_x86_64 12/5/2012 8:49:01 AM | | log flags: file_xfer, sched_ops, task 12/5/2012 8:49:01 AM | | Libraries: libcurl/7.25.0 OpenSSL/1.0.1 zlib/1.2.6 12/5/2012 8:49:01 AM | | Data directory: C:\ProgramData\BOINC 12/5/2012 8:49:01 AM | | Running under account Andie 12/5/2012 8:49:01 AM | | Processor: 2 GenuineIntel Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU 987 @ 1.50GHz [Family 6 Model 42 Stepping 7] 12/5/2012 8:49:01 AM | | Processor: 256.00 KB cache 12/5/2012 8:49:01 AM | | Processor features: fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss htt tm pni ssse3 cx16 sse4_1 sse4_2 syscall nx lm tm2 popcnt pbe 12/5/2012 8:49:01 AM | | OS: Microsoft Windows 8: x64 Edition, (06.02.9200.00) 12/5/2012 8:49:01 AM | | Memory: 3.90 GB physical, 8.90 GB virtual 12/5/2012 8:49:01 AM | | Disk: 272.21 GB total, 218.84 GB free 12/5/2012 8:49:01 AM | | Local time is UTC -8 hours 12/5/2012 8:49:01 AM | | No usable GPUs found 12/5/2012 8:49:01 AM | | No general preferences found - using defaults 12/5/2012 8:49:01 AM | | Preferences: 12/5/2012 8:49:01 AM | | max memory usage when active: 1996.64MB 12/5/2012 8:49:01 AM | | max memory usage when idle: 3593.95MB 12/5/2012 8:49:01 AM | | max disk usage: 10.00GB 12/5/2012 8:49:01 AM | | don't use GPU while active 12/5/2012 8:49:01 AM | | suspend work if non-BOINC CPU load exceeds 25 % 12/5/2012 8:49:01 AM | | (to change preferences, visit the web site of an attached project, or select Preferences in the Manager) 12/5/2012 8:49:01 AM | | Not using a proxy 12/5/2012 8:49:01 AM | | This computer is not attached to any projects 12/5/2012 8:49:01 AM | | Visit http://boinc.berkeley.edu for instructions 12/5/2012 8:49:24 AM | | Fetching configuration file from http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/get_project_config.php 12/5/2012 8:49:59 AM | | Contacting account manager at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ 12/5/2012 8:50:01 AM | http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ | Message from account manager: permanent HTTP error 12/5/2012 8:51:23 AM | | Suspending computation - CPU is busy 12/5/2012 8:51:33 AM | | Resuming computation 12/5/2012 8:56:46 AM | | Fetching configuration file from http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/get_project_config.php 12/5/2012 8:57:00 AM | | Contacting account manager at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ 12/5/2012 8:57:02 AM | http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ | Message from account manager: permanent HTTP error 12/5/2012 8:57:19 AM | | Re-reading cc_config.xml 12/5/2012 8:57:19 AM | | No config file found - using defaults 12/5/2012 8:57:19 AM | | log flags: file_xfer, sched_ops, task If there is any other info that may help, please let me know. Thanks! EDIT: I attempted to connect twice during that session. I have also already attempted uninstalling and reinstalling BOINC, and double checked my password. EDIT: Thanks, SekeRob! Retry, but instead of adding an account manager, select adding a project :D
----------------------------------------edit: In case you get an "already attached..." when adding WCG as a project, you need to detach WCG first as an account manager. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Dec 5, 2012 5:29:11 PM] |

Ah-HA! That did it!
I'm not sure why I got so confused about the setup. I managed it fine on my last computer. ![]() |
