Tell us about truly good and truly awful movies

I guess we can include the mediocre stuff too, but I find it's mainly the really good and really bad stuff that's fun to talk about.

I saw something that was truly horrible today. I can't use the new HTPC yet and the old one . . . eh, forget it. Let's just say I was relegated to recording stuff from the movie channels. So watched this thing called Bitten . Now Erica Cox is quite hot to be sure and you a lot of her, ahem, if you know what I mean. But even that can't save this steaming pile in my opinion. And I do love a good vampire movie. I probably shouldn't admit that since I'll be labeled a Twilight groupie or something and nothing could be further from the truth. But I'm not so rabid and mindless a lover of vamp lore that I'll swallow virtually anything.

Jason Mewes looks familiar and sounds really familiar but I can't place him and I can be bothered to look him up, but he can't act to save his life. The whole movie really screams low budget, which is cool if you make that work for you. Thing is that you just kept being reminded of it for all of the wrong reasons.

Re: Tell us about truly good and truly awful movies

The worst movie I ever tried to watch was "Dude, Where's My Car?" It was so bad I couldn't even finish it. Almost as bad is "Fish Don't Blink." What were they thinking when they made this loser ?

Best movie: "It's a Wonderful Life" with Jimmy Stewart, Donna Reed and the policeman and cab driver - Bert and Ernie. Black and white only, not the colorized version.

Second best: "The Wizard of Oz" with Judy Garland. Best movie song with "Somewhere over the Rainbow."

I have seen each numerous times and they are still a pleasure to watch.

Cheers

[announcer type voice]Drive Angry - A man is back from hell and he's looking for revenge[/atv]

Nicholas Cage, Amber Heard

But seriously, the plot is really just an excuse for a metric butt load of shoot outs and car chases.

I have to say that Nick Cage is rather subdued here and you don't get any of the over-the-top stuff he tends to be known for. Also, although there is certainly a supernatural element, especially since there is an "accountant" from hell who is trying to bring him back, it doesn't really dominate the story line, at least in my opinion.

Personally, I like Cage up to a point and I love action movies, so this was a real treat for me. If you're more into the drama or romantic comedy type genres, stay away. You'll probably hate this.

I don't know if I think it is the best, but let's put it this way: No other movie made me go from very cheerful to depressed and wanting to puke in this short amount of time. If you want to experince that feeling, watch it: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1029234/

King of the Avenue A local drug deal makes a deal with the devil to become the big boss.

OK this probably falls into the mediocre to awful category. It got a 3.8 from IMDB and 38% from Rotten Tomatoes. The acting leaves a lot to be desired and despite the plot there isn't much in the way of supernatural influences. It does have an interesting if not so unique twist at the end though and there is a decent amount of gore if your a horror movie buff.

Personally I would watch it just for Ving Rhames.

Re: Tell us about truly good and truly awful movies

OPEN WATER http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0374102/ heads my list of films in the "you have got to be kidding me" category.

Having watched it and waited for something to happen all the way to the credits I was heard to utter that phrase...... and am reminded by my lady every time we feel any other film is heading in that direction

Recoil - Steve Austin, Danny Trejo, Serinda Swan.

I loved this revenge movie but mainly for Steve Austin and Danny Trejo. Swan's not bad either (hehehe). Lot's of good fight scenes and some good shoot outs. Acting is mediocre at best, but definitely a passable action flick.

For a former "wrestler", I've got to give Austin his due as an actor. I think he's definitely made the transition at least as successfully as someone like The Rock.

The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms.

Everyone should watch this one. It gives new meaning to bad pictures. Old time Japanese Sci-fi.

Re: Tell us about truly good and truly awful movies

Hmmm. Looks likes it's dubbed too, in both English and French - "Le monstre des temps perdus"

Subtitles give me a headache.

Re: Tell us about truly good and truly awful movies

The Rundown (2003) - The Rock, Christopher Walken

The whole time I was watching this I was trying to decide if it was worth posting. I finally decided that it was definitely good but close that border with mediocre.

The Rock plays a sort of bounty hunter who has to retrieve the son of his boss from the Amazon in the area of an open pit gold mine. This is worked by natives who are little more than slaves who are in turn are worked by Walken's evil character.

There are a few subplots which make the movie fairly interesting but the real draw is the action and this is where I had a problem. The fights where pretty well choreographed but the lead character's aversion to the use of firearms really watered things down a lot in my opinion. I'm not saying the movie has to be a fully fledged shoot'em up to be any good, just that the way they did it didn't completely work IMHO.

Even so, I thought it was quite entertaining and a good action movie and also adventure movie. I happen to like The Rock and also Walken so I would watch it just for them anyway.
