[RESOLVED] BSOD with turned on GPU

Hello everyone.

Everything was fine but approx. 2-3 days ago my computer begins to fall in BSoD while crunching on my ATI 7950 card.
This happens in various periods of time, just BSoD and then automatic reboot, regardless if I work on my PC or it is idle.

I didn't noticed any overheating on the card, only one thread is turned on (in addition there were no changes to the system or BOINC config).
If I turn off GPU crunching system is absolutely stable.

Any idea what could happen?
Maybe there is a log file to look at in BOINC directory?

In brief my config is:
Win7 64, Intel 980X@3.3Ghz (HT is on), 18Gb RAM, SSD Intel 520-128Gb, ATI 7950

Re: BSOD with turned on GPU

BSOD's is hardware or drivers MOTT. Various std???????.txt files in the BOINC data dir log failures, if they are BOINC caused. e.g. stderrdae.txt and stderrgui.txt ... any of the std???????.txt files could contain hints. Else, the system event viewer might give clues. Yesterday traced a repeating BSOD back to... the a brand new AV network driver on the brand new OS ;>)

Re: BSOD with turned on GPU

What is the maker of your 7950 and when did you buy it?
What version of the driver are you using? I have been searching around and checking reviews for a card to buy. Consensus is that any card can be brought to 'lately' with either Bios updates through the maker or by updating the drivers to latest Beta for the 7950 either from you card maker or AMD support download.
I ordered one today, also for a 980X with just 6G ram @>1800ish by CPUZ, HT on and W7 64bit.
Is this the original GPU in the system or an upgrade? If replacement, all I had to do (from NV drivers) was uninstall through control panel. Remove the 2 NV cards plug in the 7870 and ignore (decline)attempts to install a driver for my card. It loaded the windows default drivers. I went to AMD support, D/L'd latest Beta drivers for my card. Installed with bare minimum +Catalyst. Rebooted when done and no issues since.
AMD driver reputation scared me forever being an NV guy, but if you go latest drivers, IMO, AMD is no touygher than NV :)

Also, turn windows update off or to "wait for your OK" thingy. It can soooo mess things up. OH, and especially auto updates from most other HW devices ESPECIALLY printers/all-in-ones.

Re: BSOD with turned on GPU

Thank you guys for suggestions, I have successfully resolved this issue.

As you mentioned the problem was in the ATI drivers.
I've removed Catalyst completely and then re-installed from ATI site latest beta drivers with minimum options (drivers and SDK only).
No crashes in the last 24h.

Thanks again.
P.S. Vendor of my 7950 is Gigabyte

EDIT: What's that netting you and how many HCC1 tasks are you running? Also, is that the 3x fan unit? Cause that's what I got enroute.

Re: BSOD with turned on GPU

At this moment I run 10 GPU tasks + 2 CPU tasks, it takes approx 6+ min to complete (if all GPU tasks starts at the same time).
And yes - I have a 3x fan card.
