Switching from NV HCC1 to AMD HCC1

Running a Hexcore 980X on a EVGA classy MOBO with 6G ram @3.9ish on W7 64bit. Currently running GTX460 and GTX465 on HCC1 without app_info.xml file. 1/gpu.
Is there anything I should know/do before yanking the NV cards and switching to 7870 card? I have stopped accepting new work to get rid of the HCC1 projects but will have CPU tasks in Qeue. I plan to run driver sweeper once before pulling the NV cards and once after adding the 7870. Then finding a driver for the 7870. What's my best driver for 6-10 HCC1 tasks on the 7870 (2G version)?
Card is out for delivery and I'm so giddy about it that I want to make sure that I cover all bases.
Plan on using this from Bearcat's post.... Nano's xml:

Re: GPU Optimisations

"@Bearcat- No, that will not work for GPU only. That app_info is for GPU and CPU HCC tasks. Below is what you need for GPU tasks only. Make sure your profile @ WCG for this cruncher is set to receive no CPU tasks.

<app_info>
<app>
<name>hcc1</name>
<user_friendly_name>Help Conquer Cancer</user_friendly_name>
</app>
<file_info>
<name>wcg_hcc1_img_6.56_windows_intelx86__ati_hcc1</name>
<executable/>
</file_info>
<file_info>
<name>hcckernel.cl.6.56</name>
<executable/>
</file_info>
<app_version>
<app_name>hcc1</app_name>
<version_num>656</version_num>
<platform>windows_intelx86</platform>
<plan_class>ati_hcc1</plan_class>
<avg_ncpus>1.0</avg_ncpus>
<max_ncpus>1.0</max_ncpus>
<coproc>
<type>ATI</type>
<count>.10</count>
</coproc>
<file_ref>
<file_name>wcg_hcc1_img_6.56_windows_intelx86__ati_hcc1</file_name>
<main_program/>
</file_ref>
<file_ref>
<file_name>hcckernel.cl.6.56</file_name>
<open_name>hcckernel.cl</open_name>
</file_ref>
</app_version>
</app_info>

To change the amount of tasks you want to run simultaneously change the <count>.25</count> parameter. .25 is for 4 tasks. .50 is for 2. .33 is for 3.

Got this from nanoprobe. Use this and you will get just GPU."

Re: Switching from NV HCC1 to AMD HCC1

You seem to have everything planned out. Looks good. I've been using 12.10 with no issues. I installed ONLY the drivers from CCC, not the whole package. Had issues with the entire package and nano mentioned bugs in it too. I haven't played with the settings to change anything and am working just fine. Am doing 8 with my 7870 ghz edition and have a 7950 enroute for my other cruncher. Good luck.

Re: Switching from NV HCC1 to AMD HCC1

TY,
Should I leave my setup for that system at Max 10 of 12 cores with my profile WCG setting? What GHZ is your proc at and What is 8 giving you for times for HCC1 WU's? I'll follow what the CPU load is during tweaking, but I suspect that I'll be ordering another 7870 cause $200 is just too good to be true... but is :)
If the CPU load id under 40%, I'll attempt 10 each card with avg cpu set to .5 instead of 1.

The 12-10 drivers are faster for me than the 12-8 drivers, but I think you will also need to install (in addition to the basic display driver) the SDK Runtime in order for OpenCL to work. The other components (Audio, Video Compression, Catalyst Control Panel, etc.) are not necessary. However, Windows will download/install "AMD High Definition Audio Device", so might as well install the latest one from this package also.

My card is in a dual xeon X5670 2.93ghz. The times range from 4 to 5 minutes crunching 8. Suggest you start at 4 and watch your temps before raising the number of wu's crunching. Everyones system is a little different. I watched my crunching times and temps as I adjusted and think 8 is about all I want to try. I got the Diamond Multimedia one. Which one did you get?

Just an FYI. The 12.11beta4 drivers are even faster and seem to help those that are having WUs that hang and haven't applied the regedit mod . Switched all machines. All flawless so far.

Re: Switching from NV HCC1 to AMD HCC1

Everyone should have been running 12.11 beta 4 driver as soon as it released last month.

HD 7800 and hex i7? That's a weird combination. Why not dual 7970s?

I find CPU isn't that important in the project, my 7950 with FX-8120@4Ghz has been running along smoothly with 95% GPU load at all times, but upping memory frequency helped quite a bit. My return times are in the 22-25 seconds per work unit.
