Very not likely, simple because the client / server structure to do so does not exist Einstein@home already has the option for users to specify #task per GPU, without using app_info.xml at all... So, if WCG wants to do something similar, it's just to talk to Einstein@home. Yes, it does. And when I have tried to do it, my Mac has (totally) frozen every time I EAH. I have had to be very quick with my mouse to suspend EAH after hard reboot during CPU benchmark. Otherwise, mac has kept freezing. No, thank you. Crunching@Home since January 13 2000. I followed the instruction & the WUs finish like a dream on my old HD5850.
Normal single WUs average about 3.5 min each but with the app-info it finish 4 in 9 minutes. Thats just over 2 min each! They upload but I can't report them- Message: This project doesn't support computers of type anonymous I installed Boinc 7.0.36, Change prefs not to receive CPU WUs, made sure there is only GPU WUs in cache, stopped Boinc, add the unchanged app_info & restart Boinc I looked in all the posting but cant find what is causing this One post mention Win XP is the cause but it is hard to believe that to OS is causing this. |

"Just talk to Einstein" :O As the ol saying goes "trust me", WCG will not implement anything that has the remotest potential of ruining a device, as it screams off that Einstein device profile option note, that it could cause harm to the unsuspecting "let's try" casual cruncher. A box is easily ticked, or a number entered... and suddenly that multi-thousand device crunching [company/college] contributor is on the phone: "What the heck were you thinking?". You putting an app_info.xml into the projects folder is not "accidentally" done. |

"Just talk to Einstein" :O Even if you don't like the preference to run multiple tasks per GPU, Einstein@home has another highly interesting preference, the "Run CPU versions of applications for which GPU versions are available". "I make so many mistakes. But then just think of all the mistakes I don't make, although I might." |

Can anyone please tell me what is causing this:

Can anyone please tell me what is causing this: I'm not sure what is the root-cause, but I do know that the message may come up if an app_info.xml file is not used in some particular manner. What that particular manner is, I'm not sure. Another thing to consider is that WCG does not officially support use of an app_info, so that even if one can make an app_info work without issues, one gets the feeling that WCG does not want any of those things, but that WCG gets it anyway. Thus, one may view the above quoted message as WCG reminding crunchers that app_info is not officially supported. This project doesn't support computers of type anonymous ; |

It is clear that messing with Boinc system files is not supported and this is perfectly logical.
----------------------------------------I would imagine a situation like the BETA WU's. We are free to accept or refuse the Betas to be downloaded. If we accept then we also accept the risk that we get stuck, infinite loops, strange behaviors etc. etc. This is normal as a Beta WU is experimental and is in a testing phase. With GPU computing and us messing with various internal files, could be considered a similar situation. We are still learning at WCG, GPU computing here is in its early stages. I can suppose that the techs are happy that we test various configurations and report the issues. The objective being to use the various GPU's in the most efficient way, as an example in terms of energy consumption per result. |

Can anyone please tell me what is causing this: This project doesn't support computers of type anonymous Please refer to my previous post above I get that same message on my lone XP 32 bit machine if I try to run more than 1 task at a time. The machine will run multiple tasks, complete them and upload them but it will not report them. if I hit the update button I get the error message you're experiencing. I have yet to find a work around. Is your machine XP? My Win7 machines don't have this issue but they are 64 bit so I don't know if it's just an XP thing or a 32 bit thing. I'm guessing it's an XP thing. Maybe someone running Win7 32 bit with an app_info file can chime in.

Have had the same issue with W8 32bit. Thanks SAM. I was thinking it was XP because ATI has discontinued OpenCl support for it in the newer driver versions. I won't have to experiment with my Win7 32 bit HDD install after all.
