Thks to inform us abt that update .
----------------------------------------It is strange that since 29th of May we did not have it flashing when we open the Boinc client window. Note that DSFL project may end sooner than we think previously according Sekerob in the thread about crunching chart : http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewpostinthread?post=423284 Go back to crunching work ...... cheers |

As many of you fellow crunchers likely know, in Greek mythology Sisyphus was a king of Ephyra punished for chronic deceitfulness by being compelled to roll an immense boulder up a hill, only to watch it roll back down, and to repeat this action forever.
----------------------------------------In crunching for drug research, I sometimes feel much as Sisyphus must have done. At other times I have images of being handed a teaspoon and being ordered to move a mountain from location A to location B. But, I will continue and have started building another machine. I just bought (on sale) an AMD 8 core FX 8350 and another Antec Three Hundred Two case. The Sabertooth MOBO I want (which, being new will not go on sale) and the liquid cooler will follow next month. I have all the other gazintas (drives, memory, GPUs, etc.) My June projects: DSFL SN2S Folding at Home (Alzheimer's) POEM@home Fight Malaria at Home GPUGrid crunching, crunching, crunching. I'm assuming you are also going to install Linux on that machine, which will massively benefit not only because you are using an AMD processor, but because this DSFL and SN2S are using Autodock Vina which runs significantly faster on Linux.

Thanks for the suggestion which I had not considered. A couple of years ago, I used Linux and had many problems. However, if the difference in processing is significant, I might consider it. Do you have, or do you know where I might find comparative performance data? crunching, crunching, crunching. AMD Ryzen 5 2600 6-core Processor with Windows 11 64 Pro. Here you go https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,34051 Basically, VINA apps(GFAM, DSFL and SN2S) run 50 or 60 percent faster in Linux 64 bits than in Windows 7 64 bits. Linux mint is easy to use and in some ways similar to windows(has a start menu for instance). I read about a scientist who wanted to reduce the crunching load for the volunteer pc by simplify the program.i would say dont do that!i prefer to let my pc crunch at full capacity and download a large file.In this way i know i deliver a reliable contribution.
Cheers |

I don't have a single Windows machine on my network. I've been using Ubuntu for a rather long time now without a single problem. In fact, all the AMD OpenCL projects on Linux also process faster than they do on Windows as well. While I might get 4051 SP GFLOPS performance on Windows, I get 4300 SP GFLOPS in Linux with a Radeon HD 7950.

Cheers Reducing crunch time means a person can crunch more work units in a day, how is that not a good thing? [Edit 2 times, last edit by mmstick at Jun 8, 2013 11:29:55 AM] |

Thanks, branjo, for the advice and the statistics from all who contributed. The new machine, currently being built, will be dual boot Windows/Linux. It should be in production on Friday. crunching, crunching, crunching. AMD Ryzen 5 2600 6-core Processor with Windows 11 64 Pro.
