love struck What is it exactly that makes almost all cards people have, unusable for gpu computeing?

How would i force boinc to recognise that it can use the 3 gpu's i have too? Or does checking "use gpu while in use" in prefs, do this already?

I think this is true, overclocking even just one video card, when boinc sees "0 gpu's", still accelerates computations of "cpu"work units. Are gpu work units entirely different then the cpu work units we have been computeing previously??

What would actually prevent a quadro 500/600 from computeing these gpu work units? Aside from the server simply not giving the client the work unit?

How would one test gpu WU's with unsupported gpu's vs gpu WU's that run partially on gpu's only? Why do the results submitted so far seem so slow? They should not have any issues computeing these things.

With the way windows is setup, i bet the unsupported cards would run faster, thanks to the os's use of the cpu alongside the gpu's...and access to shared system resources. Instead of video card only resources. Not all these cards, even supported ones. Support the shareing of system resources.

If the program doesn't find a GPU it can use, it will not let you have one of these units.

Don't know how OCing your GPU would help a CPU unit run faster.

These units are different at the very least in the way they are put together to send out to crunchers. They are likely, however, doing the same type of work.

The GPUs on the exclusion list likely don't have OpenCL support built into them.

I believe the Beta testing provided the answers as to which GPUs could or could not do these units.

Hi pazsion,
Here is the list of GPU boards that are known not to run HCC: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=GPU

Did you download and install the video card drivers from the manufacturer of your gpu? Amd.com or Nvidia.com will get you to the download sites depending on which kind of gpu you have. Download the latest driver and after restarting your pc open Boinc Manager, down by the clock, and then open the 'log' and near the top it will say how many gpu and what kind it finds. SOMETIMES you will need to load the software once for EACH gpu you have, so in your case 3 separate times! Check in Boinc though before loading it more than once and ONLY do that IF NEEDED!! AFTER Boinc sees your gpu's you can then try and use them for crunching. Check the link Lawrence provided to make sure your cards are on the list though BEFORE you go thru all this, it is kind of silly if they won't work anyway.

These HCC GPU tasks use OpenCl as the computing platform. If your card does not support that platform it will not work. No amount of driver updates will change that. There is also nothing the techs or Boinc can do about that.
